Well some have seen teh post I made of my new toy, it'* an 83 chevy pickup. Well what I thought was carb problems ( still could be) turned out to be water in the fuel. I was trying 3 different carbs and seen water in the intake as I was switching them tonight.

I have a bit over 5 gallons of gas in teh tank and I put a quart of Methyl Hydrate in it to help get rid of some of that water. Is there any other solution I could use other than dropping the tank?

How much water are we talking about? You mention seeing it....that seems like a lot. Although a quart of dryer should handle 5 gallons with ease.

Hmm siphoning won't work too well since the water sits right on the bottom of the tank. Dad had to drop the tank of our old chevy last time it got water in it, then blew the lines out with compressed air.

Well I just spent a few hours tonight trying to get the tank dropped, and I finally won that battle. Tomorrow I will probably remove the lines and then have a good look at it to see where the water might be coming from.

Hopefully I can just change the sending unit ( since the gauge is not working properly), then re-mount that tank. If I am lucky I might be able to fix the sending unit, but I think that would be pushing it, lol.

Quick update.

I ended up having about 1/2" of water in the bottom of the tank. That'* about 2 gallons. So I needed a new tank. I went to the wrecking yard up the road who is one of hte only one'* left in the region that deals with older vehicles, and scored a new looking ( mint shape no rust) tank, along with a sending unit and one frame bracket ( which I had to cut to get off) all for 60$.

I will be replacing the rubber line under the truck and new straps and hopefully by the end of next week it will be running again on FUEL not WATER, lol.
