Goodbye, Buddy.
You endured alot over the years. Without complaint. You protected our home and our children, and did it well. You never let a stranger between you and the kids, because you loved them.
You were my Buddy, my friend, and my dog. But most of all, you were family.
You endured a physically brutal search for a missing boy, and went where no other dog would go. And you never let the National news go to your head.
You were proud, humble, devoted and loving. From beginning to end.
My tears aren't tears of pain or hurt, they're tears of thanks.
We'll miss you.

Sorry about the loss man. A dog or a cat is more than an animal, hell, there probably better than people most of the time. Always loyal and trustworthy.

Thanks for your thoughts and understanding. Mick was no stranger to the members here, either. This was a good way to tell him goodbye.
Mick is being cremated, and will go with me in 50 years or so. Lilpooky knows already, but this will be the first Katie knows of it this afternoon. He'* 6 months older than her, so she has never known a time without him.
Breaking the news to her will be almost as difficult as being with him for his last breath this morning.

Its difficult for a non-dog owner like myself to understand the depth and complexity of the relationship shared between person and pet. Mick was everything a Boxer should and so much more.
Free of the pain, he can run free in the open fields of doggie....heaven? ...he'll be waiting for ya in 50 years or so when you get there Bill.
RIP Mick

sorry to hear that Bill. It is tough to loose someone that is always there for you, no matter what. They don't call dogs "mans best friend" for no reason.....

Sorry to hear the sad news Will. I offer my sincerest condolences. I have a Golden Retriever and I don't know what I'd do without her hassling me while I'm outside working on the car or just hanging around outside (only comes inside when temps get below +5*F).
I still remember his battle with that varmin that you took pics of. Helluva fighter he was.

I'm sorry for your loss, Bill. Pets are definately part of the family and the impact is nearly the same as a human relative.
Just remember the saying: "All good dogs go to Heaven". From what you described, Mick was a great one.
