Drove a 24v 2000 Sable the other night. That thing has more getup off the line then a 3800.... Or atleast the initial throttle tip in, and roll is faster. Dunno about all of the launch.. Nice lil motor in there, sounds great.

There are 2 different 3.0L engines that come in those things, the 3.0L OHV engine making 155hp and the 200 hp DOHC. I dont know ive driven in cars with both and am not impressed with either. I believe the 1/4 mile times ive read on the DOHC is like 16.2, the pushrod version is in the high 17'* cause in the fall of 03 my friend ran one at the track with his V6 92 camaro and got beat by the tarus; 17.7 to 18.3
The DOHC feels peppy but I dont think it can beat an L36 or a Series 1 L67 powered bonne.

Never raced one, but I've driven every year and trim level of Taurus up till 2001, and other than the original SHO/stick shift, they are all dogs. The only saving grace for the original bodystyle was that they were fairly light. When they did the ground-up redesign(94-95?) they gained a lot of weight, and even the SHO with the newer V8 was slower than the previous year.
They also all have huge trans reliability problems, especially the base 3.0Liter.
The Taurus was never a performer, that'* why they killed it.(Then chickened out and replaced it with yet another uninspired, conventional, slow, FWD sedan. Yay for F*rd, upholder of the status quo.)

Remember guys, the Taurus was the poor mans family sedan. You could be a cheap car that would last a long time for your family. Say that about the Bonne, but it was never as cheap.

Everything that Frod[sic] makes has the same problems; unreliable AOD transmissions, fire-hazard wiring, cheap interiors(visible mold lines, sharp edges), and horrible build-quality. The only(ONLY) thing that Ford has going for them is that they also sell the cars cheap. So buy cutting every corner until it bleeds, they offer their customer exactly what they pay for, a cheap car, and they make a f*cking mint.
