Eagle Scouts

Thought this a couple times, but never bothered to ask

Anybody else here an Eagle Scout?
When did you get it, and what was your project?

Guess I'll start this off:

Received Eagle Scout in January of 2000
Project was to clear and widen a cross country ski trail for emergency vehicle access

Whos next?

Puddy46 01-11-2007 10:34 PM

You can do it, no problem

jshelton54 01-11-2007 11:04 PM

Yes sir. Totally worth it. I can't tell you how many jobs I have gotten because of it. And I started at a higher pay rate because of it too.

Got it in like 1992 or so. I planned a landscape for the walking trail along about a mile, researched indiginous trees, got a grant from the city council, consulted with the conservation office about the trees, purchased the trees (about 50-60), dug all the holes for the trees, and planted them. It is pretty cool to go back and see those trees now and they are 30-40 feet tall.

Yeah, Eagle Scout will stay on my resume the rest of my life.

Gives the employer a very quick and effective judge of character.

willwren 01-11-2007 11:52 PM

Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow.

Replanned and mapped out the emergency (fire/earthquake) routes for my church. Including two follow-up drills.

I've never used it on a job application. That was back in 83 or 84? Something like that.

I am an Eagle Scout as well as a Vigil Honor member of OA. I procrastinated -- I fulfilled the final requirement for Eagle on the day before my 18th birthday.

Jeff

willwren 01-12-2007 12:05 AM

Jeff, I finished my Eagle the day BEFORE my 18th. You're more of a procrastinator than me. :D

bonnie94ssei 01-12-2007 12:05 AM

My older brother made Eagle. I didn't make it in time. My twin didn't either. But having the Scouts on a resume helps by itself too. I don't have it on my resume any more IIRC.

I know a couple kids who got it who did not get it fairly.

I don't see how those are different. We're both procrastinators 8)

bonnie94ssei 01-12-2007 12:27 AM

I was wondering that too Jeff.

My board of review was in I believe November 2002.
My project involved restoring a section of a very old cemetary in my hometown.

Chinski 01-12-2007 10:02 AM

Life was highest rank for me. I was inducted into OA but decided not to join. In my troop, there was me, another guy my age and about 5 guys a year older. Then the rest of the scouts were at least 2 years younger. They decided we (the older scouts) should form a Venture Crew and just be like a side group of the main troop (had our own number and ect). They said it was because we were hogging all the leadership positions and making it hard for the younger scouts to advance...I think there was something about "bad example" in there too  It was fun though, we focused more on longer camping/backpacking events instead of the day/weekend things, and since all the others had Eagle there was little focus on badges so I never bothered to get Eagle. I regretted it a little bit while I was still active but not afterward.

driverjohn2005 01-12-2007 11:58 AM

I got to two ranks below my Eagle Scout rank. Time and interest were the issues on why I didn't complete mine  :(

popatim 01-12-2007 07:09 PM

I always wanted to join scouting but my mother couldn't afford it. Now I'm a pure city boy and would probably starve to death on a farm if a grocery store weren't in driving distance.
