reliable? I"ve had the displeasure of driving one of those cars before and it was THE biggest POS I've driven to date. It was a 91. Horrible reliablity, gas mileage... I can't think of any positivies to that car over anything else really. Sucks to hear about the head gasket on that Aurora, atleast it's not common. (much less common than the UIM failure on the 3800.)

im in the ford asset program and my instructor has said the topaz/tempo is probly the most unreliable ford car he knows of, they had one really huge problem on them but i cant remeber what it was, i wanna say fuel pump but im not sure

as for posting the title, the image is too low resolution for someone to make a forgery i tihnk...

Thing is, a 3800 equipped vehicle is actually worth the repair if the intake should fail.

A car like that is for someone who lives in a smaller town, and just needs something to get around in. Maybe to and from the grocery, or maybe work if they lie close.
That car is not good for long commutes. I have owned similar.

FUN FACT - if someone needs a "point A to B" 4 banger car cheap, real cheap, check out the reliant or aries K. It is nothing sexy, but better than a tempo.

harofreak00 02-26-2006 01:49 PM

this topic was not posted for the questionability of tempo's.. the only reason his mom thinks they are reliable is cuz he had one before, and only got rid of it cuz we were playing football and smashed the windshield...

lets hope to god he doesnt have to downgrade from aurora to tempo

If you want reliable, have him look into the 87-94 H-body cars. my 88 LeSabre needed LESS than $1,000 in repairs total in a seven year span that my family owned it. This includes tune up, and basic maintenance costs too. (brakes, air filters, spark plugs, 02 sensors, etc.) I say 94, because the Series I is slightly more reliable than the series II. You don't have to worry about failed gaskets anywhere near as much.

how much would it be to drop a junkyard motor in though...I would imagine about half of that.

we found a motor for $500, and was quoted 1000-1500 for the swap

:o $1000? I know it wouldn't cost as much with my truck because it's older, but when I had the motor changed in it, it only cost $500 to buy the motor and have it switched.

I apologize if I am pointing out the obvious, but buying another car implies 1) re-registering, 2) paying sales tax and probably other hidden costs... even if the car you are buying is a tempo/topaz.

harofreak00 02-26-2006 02:41 PM

the complexity of the 4.0 v8 is far beyond the 3800

once again... ppl.. i did not post this about whether or not he should get a tempo... i posted about having a title posted publicly

You're right, Andrew. Sorry we got off topic.

I'll try and be the first to get back on topic

I would think that posting a title online is a bad idea, but maybe it doesn't matter since the vehicle is a Tempo or Topaz that is planning to replace your friend's Rora which could probably be fixed for a fraction of the cost or at least would be worth fixing over buying said tempo/topaz. How did I do?
