West Virginia Coalminers
Thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the coalminers killed in the performance of their jobs and the supporting of their families.
May God lookout for them and may they Rest In Peace.

Exactly
Did you hear the full story? I hear partial, and that total BS how someone made a prejudgment call. Anyone else got any other details about it?

From what I heard was the rescue squad that went in had a code for how many were alive and how many were dead. They said the code got screwed up, but they didn't say whether someone mispoke or someone misinterpreted it.
It was pretty crazy though. A couple people came outta this one building and were all happy looking. A reporter asked why they looked so happy and they started screaming "they are all alive." Everyone around is like "they are all alive???" and the word pretty much spread that way to the other families...
Tragic to say the least Someone screwed up... My goes out to their families.

very sad news! I heard on the news that they weren't sure who first said they all were alive but news spread, church bells rang (which meant alive), and families celebrated. Shortly after that the officials got the real news and let the families continue to celebrate for a few hours so they could figure out how to tell them. That is so tragic and they are waiting to talk to the only survivor to see what happened down there. He was the youngest and possibly the most fit.

Yes. This is a very sad and unfortunate situation. It seems that there was a mis-communication originally and the families heard about it a began celebrating. it was figured out about 45 minutes later that it was not the case and that 12 were dead. The families were not told for 3 hrs because they wanted to make sure they had all the facts straight before telling the families so the same thing didn't happen twice.
