Does This Impress You?

The new SRT-8 models have a 6.1L V8 with 425hp and 420tq. I think its cool and really respect these cars. BUT... who can't get 425hp out of a 6.1L V8 with a mild factory cam? The 300C SRT-8 was featured on speed channel and is getting attention from all directions. Personally 425hp is what I EXPECT from a 6.1 L V8. If you want to see REAL talent, see the 3800 L67's pushing 425hp at the WHEELS. Thats like near 500 at the crank. There is what... 55 people on the clubgp registry running better than 12's. The new 300C SRT-8's have been known to run 12.7's@ 110mph. But, there is also a turbo GP that runs a 9.8@ 143mph. Why doesn't this get recognition?

because any tie wearing, expresso drinking, doesnet even know that there is a cam shaft, has never seen motor oil vehicle driver......can go to his local dealer and go buy big power.....

us real gearheads like to mod.....that inclues aftermarket parts....the after market is not recgonized by manufacturers

ill happily mod my car as apposed to go and buy the power..thank you very much

i do see your point and agree with you, but lets think about this.

if you put the same amount of money into the V8 that was put in the GP to get it to run 9s....oh my heavens.

the people that can afford those kinds of cars like to have lots of power in stock form, because they dont like the thought of modifying their cars..im reminded of a story:

an older businessman pulled into our parking lot at work and was showing off his C5 Vette to one of my coworkers, it was beautiful, deep blue with red stripes, he had it all shined up, said he was getting ready to take it to a car show...he popped the hood and i glanced under and said "what? its still stock?" kinda givin him a hard time. he came back with "hell i can barely keep traction now, why modify it?"

there isnt really a good answer to your question though, cars that are fast in stock form seem to get more respect than cars that are modified to be fast....i guess because their owners had to "make" them fast.

youi have to keep in mind, that the manufacturers could probably get 700HP out of a 6.1 rather easily, but they wont for the same reasons a S2 L67 is only 240hp, RELIABILITY. if the hemi had 700hp it wouldnt be nearly as reliable of an engine, that would be subject to more under warranty repairs. besides, a 700hp engine wont get 20mpg

bnesides, how many cars are there out there that pust the 500hp mark. so yes, in stock form 400+ is impressive, especially in a huge sedan

That to me is a more respectable circumstance than just buying a $40,000 car with a 6.1L V8. My car with: 1:9 rockers, intercooler, headers, FWI, DHP, exaust, and a 2.7" pulley that runs 12.7's would deserve more respect than a stock 12.7 SRT-8 in my mind.

There is something about seeing the fruits of your labor than the fruits of your money!!!!!!

Would you rather pay insurance on a 425hp car or a 700hp car? Insurance purposes. But 425 is pretty good for a new car.

Versus a modded car such as ours, not so much, but the fact that an American company is willing to put a vehicle such as this on the market does impress me. 15 years ago that car would have simply been a dream.

Mine's not modded, so I'm still wishing for 425.

well definetely, i meant in terms of the casual observer, a stock 400hp car gets more respect than a modded one...

if you had a stock SRT-8 and 8-Ball sittin next to each other...which one would most people drool over more? now most people here would go with the ol 8-bal, but im talkin your average Joe who doesnt know that the stock-looking Bonneville is a pavement ripping machine.
