Without power for 8 hours
So yesterday afternoon we had a horrible storm roll through the area. We lost power at 3pm and didnt get it back until 11:30pm that night. Trees were down, power lines down, part of our roof on our apartment building was peeled back, it was nuts! At my work we had hail the size of softballs. Thank god I put my car inside!!

A storm packing lightning and furious winds killed at least one person Tuesday afternoon as it ripped though Northwest Indiana, uprooting, toppling and igniting trees and causing vehicle wrecks.
A pickup truck'* driver died when a tree fell on the truck on Ind. 149, just north of County Road 875 North in Porter County.
South Haven Fire Chief Doug Patton said his department was called to the accident about 3:15 p.m. The tree hit the passenger compartment, he said. Power lines also were on the truck when rescue crews arrived, he said.
Porter County police and coroner'* office workers confirmed the death, but did not release the identity of the driver. There were no passengers in the truck.
National Weather Service spotters reported winds gusting as high as 70 mph in Northwest Indiana, said Casey Sullivan, a meteorologist for the service'* Romeoville office. Radar evidence indicates straight-line winds caused the damage in Lake County, although the service may investigate today whether any tornadoes touched down.
The police radio popped Tuesday afternoon with reports of trees and live power lines blocking roads and touching buildings across Lake and Porter counties.
The storm peeled part of the roof off Grand Tots day care off 133rd Avenue in Cedar Lake.
None of the 37 children or eight adults inside the school was hurt, said director Cheryl Reynolds. The town'* tornado alert siren was activated just before the storm struck. Those inside the school were safely inside two bathrooms, Reynolds said.
Cedar Lake police and firefighters responded quickly, she said.
"They were like angels," Reynolds said.
Town officials activated the tornado siren after hearing from an Illinois fire department of an oncoming "super cell" storm, said Cedar Lake Fire Chief Dennis Wilkening.
State, county and local police dealt with crashes, although no major injuries or delays were reported Tuesday evening, a state trooper said. At least one semitrailer rolled in the storm.
In Griffith, a lightning strike knocked a tree onto power lines, closing Fairbanks Street for more than an hour during the afternoon traffic rush, Sgt. Jeff Gang said.
In Crown Point, lightning struck a home on 93rd Avenue, causing no major damage, according to Crown Point acting Fire Chief Mark Baumgardner.
In Hobart, a tree crushed a van.
Porter County Emergency Management Director Phil Griffith said Portage, South Haven and the town of Porter were hardest hit.
In Portage, a large oak tree just to the west of City Attorney Gregg Sobkowski'* home at 6155 Sunrise Ave. snapped in half, with branches crashing through the roof of his master bedroom and puncturing the side of his garage.
"Thank goodness no one was home when it happened," he said.
Several Portage roads were blocked by downed trees, including Hamstrom Road in front of Kyle Elementary School and the intersection of Central Avenue and Airport Road. Farther south on Airport, a 50-foot pine tree fell across the road near the Prairie Duneland Trail and the sign for the Oakview Meadows subdivision was blown away.
Portage officials opened the city'* three fire stations as temporary shelters and were planning for long-term shelters if needed.
Winds whipped through Chesterton, toppling trees, blocking streets and damaging some houses. The fence at the Chesterton High School baseball field was blown over and twisted while track and field equipment was blown around the nearby arena.
Porter County police spokesman Sgt. Timothy Emmons said. "We've had reports of trees down all over the county."
Emmons said state police were investigating a report that a semi struck the median on Interstate 94 in Chesterton, injuring three.

We got that same storm yesterday and is still out in areas here too. Also I agree that pic 8 is amazing 
I think it is amazing that some of the biggest most powerful trucks struggle to pull trees down while the wind can pull it down in a matter of seconds

It was NASTY here yesterday. Especially around 7:30. I was driving our truck on a north/south route and I was afraid a tree was going to blow down into my path from the west side of the street.
The hail was the size of golf balls. It came down so hard that it sounded like I was standing in an indoor gun range with no ear protection.
Just nuts.

Reminds me of the weather we had back in April.
Just the type of **** I live for. Nothing like losing power for a day or two. Gas up the generators, if it gets cold enough throw a log on the woodstove, sit back and flip mother nature the bird
