Interesting facts regarding energy usage in my appartment...
I just bought a nifty little tool called a "Kill A Watt." Basically it monitors how many watts various appliances around your home takes to run.

Just thought it was pretty interesting how much power stuff took. There were a few surprises!!
Lamp with "60 watt" energy saver bulb: 10 watts!
Lamp with regular "60 watt bulb" 58 watts
Computer with monitor: 182 Watts
Computer + Monitor off: 12 Watts
33 inch wide screen television: 65 Watts
Cable Modem: 12 Watts!
Linksys router: 2 watts
Night light: 3 watts
Air cleaner: 45 watts
Fan (floor model, 3 speed): 55 watts, all speeds.
Air Freshener (heated): 5 watts
Refrigerator while running: 130 Watts
1000 Watt Microwave (any power setting): 1,650 watts
2-slot toaster oven: 1,130 watts
4-slot toaster oven: 2, 060 watts
Norelco cordless razor (charging): 2 watts
Laser Printer while printing: 400 watts
Laser printer, idle: 3 watts.
Pretty interesting that my computer while OFF uses more energy than leaving an energy-saver light bulb on ALL THE TIME!
It'* also interesting to note that I can have FIVE lamps on with energy saver bulbs and still use less power than ONE lamp with a regular bulb, and the energy savers are BRIGHTER!
I also could not believe how much power a microwave and toaster really take, also that a cable modem takes more energy than a light bulb... interesting stuff!

I havent used one before, but, phantom wattage? is something that occurs when I device is not totally "off" but remains in standby. I have a few of those items in my place
Nintendo Wii
Yamaha home ent. system
I'd use my power bar to completely shut it all off, but its inconvenient to get too..

i read about those before... I also say something that you can do with you computer to manage the power consumption in your home. I think it was saying that you can shut down power to rooms in your place when you know they don't need power... could be kind of fun.
