Computer Gurus!

Guys help me,

theres something wrong with my BIOS/Integrated Video

My computer will not go past post, it just sits there at the Toshiba post splash screen until i start pressing stuff and then i can usually get it to start. But it starts up and stays at 1024x768 from its normal 1280x800. NOW, in diagnostics its showing the potential of this screen as 1024x768. And if i shut it off, and remove the battery, once everyother time it will start up normally at the right resolution and will go stupid again if i restart it.

I have tried to flash the BIOS but it won't let me because it says that I have the updated version and it won't continue.

PLEASE. HELP.

Sometimes you can reset the BIOS by pulling the blue jumper pin on the motherboard and starting the PC without it in; then shut down the PC put it back in and restart it. worked with some gateways...

Well when you get it to boot after pressing all of the buttons it sound like you're booting into safe mode. There are very minimal video options in safe mode because it doesn't load any of the video cards drivers (uses onboard windows stuff only for functionalities sake).

All I'd be able to suggest is to try formatting your hard drive and doing a fresh install of windows, though the fact that it won't go past boot confuses me. It could be a hardware problem.

Like twister said, you can sometimes reset the bios by using the reset jumper or removing (and reinstalling) the cmos battery.

Well its a laptop....

the only way it gets solved is if i unplug it and take the battery out for about a minute and then it will work normally, but then once i restart it..i have to do that ALL OVER AGAIN

something be wrong.

To add some info...

It has to be BIOS...I can't imagine what else.

It is a Toshiba Satellite M45-S265. The computer operates fine once it gets past post. except for the screen looking all strange.

HELP, this computer is about to become target practice.

boot up the laptop and hit whatever key it specifies to get you into the BIOS(or CMOS.... whatever you prefer to call it)'s setup screen. Find the option called something like "reset to defaults" or "default settings"..... basically what you're wanting to do is set the CMOS back to it's default configuration. Once this is done, make sure you save the settings before exiting the setup. Restart the computer(should do this automatically) and see what happens.

My guess is that it's nothing to do with the BIOS..... but a hardware issue with your integrated video. Normally when a computer "hangs" while posting, it's due to an error in the POST process and the BIOS is set to "halt on all errors". If you hit the ESC key (or is it the TAB key.... cant remember) when your Toshiba splash screen is there, it should go away and let you view the posting screen...... this may have the error at the bottom of the screen for you.

Hope this helps.

Another question that should be asked is have you added anything to your laptop lately? Windows updates, drivers, other software programs, hardware? If so, maybe you can get into safe mode and remove that item from the computer. How old is the laptop?

that whole resetting to default is actually the first thing i did.

and yeah, I added a mouse, but that couldn't be it because i had been running that long before it started this crap.

oh and i bought this laptop Sep 2005

have you searched Toshiba's support website for your issue?? They have a pretty extensive knowledge base.....
