Cat 5 Cable
If i have kinks in my cat 5 cable would that cause my internet speed to drop?
|
The wire is still in tact, so no. Only interference will slow it down.
|
I've had my Cat 6 to the router in the closet running accross the doorway for alomost three years now.
|
but kinks could cause the wire to break right?
|
depends on how tight of a kink... If you tied it in a knot, yeah, it's prolly broke. If you curved it around a coffee can, It's fine. Why don't ya just pull out your known good tester? or grab a ohmmeter and test it....

Collissions on the network could be slowing you down.

Yes, Damemorder is correct. If it is tight like it got pinched good while it was slightly kinked it may be broken. If it is just a slight kink you should be good.
You have a digital camera don't you? Snap a quick pic and post it. Another easy way to clean your connection is to click on the start button, click "Run", and type "ipconfig". I do this every time I think of it and has been known speed up my connection. |
If you are worried about it, just get another cable. It's really cheap stuff now-a-days.
