Car specifications database

Hi guys, this is just a quick update on progress with the car specifications database I’m working on as part of the Street-Car auto enthusiasts website.

I now have specifications on the site for most cars sold in Europe and North America from 1998 to date. As some of you may already know I started with current cars and I’m (slowly!) working my way back in year. I’m about to start on 1996.

I have done my utmost to make sure they are as accurate and complete as possible and the info has been gathered together from a variety of sources including a wide selection of consumer websites, car manufacturer websites, and my own library of car brochures and books.

Here’s a direct link to Street-Car’s index of car specifications so you can browse the specifications at your leisure: http://www.street-car.net/forums/showthread.php?t=758

I am continually adding new specifications to the database as time allows so it is well worth keeping an eye on the site as there is always new information there. The main forums page tells you when new specs have been added as the specs database is part of the forums. I hope you will find the site to be a valuable resource!

Aside from this the Street-Car site also offers a forum dedicated to all car enthusiasts everywhere so feel free to check that out too: http://www.street-car.net/forums/index.php If you like the site you’re very welcome to sign up to these forums.

Let me know what you think. Feedback is always welcome!

OK, I'll shut up and stop showing off now! :D

it says the supercharged bonnevilles top speed is electronically limited at 136mph... thats not right.. its 126-128 depending on the car if they were shipped with speed rated tires.. otherwise its like 109...

are the UK specs different?

The 3.8 Intrigue still puts out 230 ft. lbs of torque, but the 195hp is correct.

Also both top speed figures for the Intrigue I would disagree with, it would have to be an Autobahn equipped Intrigue to be able to run those speeds, you might make some mention of that.

I have the Intrigue with the 3.5 and it will not go 136mph, trust me ive tried, it shuts down somewhere between 105 and 110 just like most other GM cars.

But other than that, looks like an awesome database and kudos for all the work youve put into it!

Country of origin: USA

The Pontiac brand was launched by General Motors in 1926, and was named after the town of Pontiac in Michigan where the cars were originally built. Pontiac has remained part of GM to this day.

I thought it was named after the Salt Flats in Utah?

And Pontiac with a wagon company....

Umm. the Bonneville was named after the Bonneville Salt Flats, Pontiac was named after the town in MI which was in turn named for the Indian tribe that once lived in the region.

Simon, American FWD Buicks are limited either at 108 or 128, depending on the model, year, motor, and trim level, as are FWD Pontiacs, Oldsmobiles and Chevrolets.
There may be exceptions to that, but I think it's the general rule.

None of these cars were sold in the UK unfortunately.

Thanks for the help guys. The torque error on the Intrigue was a typo (slaps wrist), the top speed errors I blame my sources! Rectified now. The top speeds that were over 128 on the cars you mentioned proved to be erronous when I double checked them elsewhere. Those that are below that figure I believe to be correct. I wonder why they bother to fit limiters to be honest. I'm sure the more powerful V6 cars would be capable of 140+ if they were derestricted.

German cars are always restricted to 155mph if they are capable of that figure. If they aren't then they don't speed limiters and their top speed is their true top speed.

This brings me on to a moan. I love US cars, but I find that performance stastics (especially top speed) are hard to come by and difficult to varify as they rarely come from the manufacturer themselves. Why is it so hard to find proven performance figures for these cars? The big three don't seem to release official performance figures for their US cars.

For 0-60 times I have to rely on magazine road tests - which often vary.
