Computer Problems
Hey guys, most of you know I am pretty good at solving my own computer problems, but this one has me stumped. The computer is acting a little strange. Its taking about 15 minutes to start, literally. and then once its to the login screen, it takes FOREVER for my programs to startup. I would just reinstall the OS, but for some reason, my OS CD has vanished. and I don't have the money for vista.
HELP.
HELP.

Did you just load a bunch of drivers?
Do a scan disk and see what pops up.
Do a defragment.
Check for viruses.
Go to task manager and look at the applications running. Is one hogging all the memory?

For those of you who don't know. I repair computers for a living. Just as a side note.
No I didn't load a bunch of drivers.
I have very few startup programs.
I did Check Disk
I did Defragment
I ran all my spyware/adware programs.
I did a virus scan.
I did a system mechanic total care scan...twice.
The system is responding very sluggishly.
I have uninstalled any and all extra programs I don't use.
Nothing is hogging any resources.
The hard drive will go on constant run stints for no particular reason.

Ryan, im telling you the OS is taking forever and a day. And yeah, the windows profile is not much better. But the WINDOWS loading screen, right after bios, just sits there for like 10 minutes, loading, loading, and loading, with the HD light on solid for the whole time. WHAT is the deal?

Possibility of a memory module failure? I know my one PC had a failing 256MB, and would take FOREVER to start up and do anything. Run a good memory test to check the integrity of them.
