OK. So I’m in a meeting and my cell phone, set to stun, buzzes me. It’* my 16 year old daughter. She tells me there’* some fluid leaking out of her ’63 Star Chief. Then, a LOT of fluid. Then she says “There’* ‘smoke’ coming out of the engine!”. She finds a safe place to pull over and tells me it looks like “radiator fluid” is all over the road. I sure hope the ol’ 389 hasn’t cashed in it’* chips due to overheating.

Dang. Could be the coup de grace for the old girl (the car, that is).

I think it'* awesome your daughter will drive the Star Chief. If you would like any mechanical advice I can move this to classics for you.

She actually thinks it'* pretty cool - nobody else has a car like it in the school parking lot! She even named it...she calls it the "Black Pearl". And it LOOKS like the "Pearl" after a cannonball fight, so the name fits.

Turns out the heater core cashed out, so I just bypassed it and she'* back on the road. I like my 93 Bonneville but, man, if John Candy, John Belushi, and Sam Kinneman were mechanics they could all fit under the hood at the same time with Moe, Larry & Curley. So easy to work on. I reckon I'll be hunting down a heater core soon, but with the 95F+ temps lately she won't be needing it for a while. Thanks for the offer to move this to classics JW, but for now I have handle on it.

Engine survived. This daughter has a little mechanical sense and pulled over and shut it down. Her sister would have turned the wipers on in an attempt to see through the steam and drove to the mall. Their brother would have pulled over and McGivered a fix in NASCAR pit stop time (don't know where he gets it ). Interesting how kids from the same stock are so different.
