It'* really not that bad, I try not to be seen in it... But the gas is worth it. I really have to floor it to get on the interstate, But I think that'* a tranny thing, I don't have first gear anymore. Oh, and I swear to god every kid at work has told me to drop in a 2jtc4f3-something or the other, Apparently they don't drive their cars for the mileage. Which is actually better than I could ever ask for. I'm getting 42mpg just going to work and back, I steal my roommates car for everything else. We're sharing cars, We drive the Geo to work and his Malibu for everything else since he works overnight and doesn't want his stereo at work at night. Maintence costs are extremely low, Air filter, wipers and Pennzoil 10w30 cost $20, a couple parts at the junkyard were $50. She drives everyday no matter what. I've got $625 in her total counting two tires. Now to choose if I want to install a 5spd stick or a 3spd auto to get first back.

It'* nice for the mileage, But when I rolled that beautiful '93 out of Mom'* shed for a weekend cruise, I fell in love all over again. I've got her back apart for the last engine mod, and had her towed across town to a bay i can use for a while to get the panels fitting perfect and the bondo work done. I get to visit everyday, But I want to drive...


Bottom line, I'm saving so much money driving a 4cyl, I can do the things I've wanted to the Bonne, without having to drive her everyday. If you really love your Bonne get an import.

theJMFC has a 90 corolla that he doesn't use much anymore, but he typically got 35mpg highway, and has recorded up to 38.8 in the past.

But my lesabre will do 30-32 on the highway (more so now with colder weather), even if I let the wife drive. In town, I get about 24 mpg pretty reliably (though about 20 if I let the wife drive). In a year, we drive about 25k miles (+/- depending), with a good 15k of that being highway, and the other 10k being city. With gas at 3.00 a gallon, and assuming the corolla got 30/35, I'd only be saving some 500 dollars a year. But before I can say it'* a good idea, I need to remember that now I have insurance on two vehicles. And realisitically, the corolla will only be used for trips in the city - I can't think of the last time theJMFC actually used the corolla for a long trip... they just don't like driving it. It sits un-used, next to the bonnie.

So, if I accounted for only using the import for my city driving, I'd only be saving 250 a year in gas costs. Thrown in insurance, and the fact that I have to buy the thing, and it'* going to take a lot longer than the car will last for me to pay it off.

But, that'* just my specific situation, your mileage may vary

i had an import before the jeep thats in my sig... 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage DE 1.5L 4sp auto w/od (clunky little trans but never gave up) i got 33-40 mpg in it the times i calculated it, it was a decent car, never left me or my mom stranded but she beat the hell out of it when she drove it, im talkin 15k+ oil changes, tune ups when a misfire code popped up, check engine light on from 2000-2004 because of bad o2 sensors/tps, i replaced them but the damage was already done to the car, it was on its last legs and the last week i owned it the oil started getting white crap in it on the dipstick, traded it in for the jeep, it had 166k on it, i just found out that they fixed the body and resold it and it got wrecked a month later, and its back at the dealer i traded it to with the whole front end smashed damn i miss that gas mileage, ah well *puts around with his amazing 18mpg (city, car dosent see highway because of a bad driveshaft that i have to replace asap now that im driving it) in the jeep *

Seriously. Though NVH isn't as good, the general feeling you get when you drive it makes the SSE feel downright boaty and not worthy of the SSE name. Everything becomes just so... vague.

Passing power is the same, if not better. Low-ish stall speed (?) means you can goose the throttle and the car will goose really nice off the line.
Steering is better weighted and gives more feedback. Brakes too.
The interior, while cozier, is way plenty for my lanky five-foot-eight sorry ***.

My dad, having the '89 GT-* Corolla before the Bonneville, got only slightly better fuel mileage than the 3800. So yeah, if Dameorder was to swap in the 4A-GE from it, kiss economy goodbye.

On the other hand, my driver'* ed car was a 2000 Corolla. Horrible. Feather-light, overboosted steering, non-linear brakes, the need to go to 3000rpm EVERY shift - all in all a personality-free drive that I quickly came to hate.
