Amazing......
A State Trooper'* dashboard-camera captured amazing pictures of a truck slamming into a Ramsey County deputy Wednesday morning. The deputy escaped with only minor bruises, but you wouldn't believe it by watching the pictures.
The crash happened while Deputy Glen Pothen was assisting a State Patrol officer with another crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 694 near I-35E.
The video shows Pothen standing by a car that went off the interstate. A truck that lost control then speeds into the picture. As the deputy turned back to look, the truck plowed him of the road. It nearly missed the head of a woman who was standing next to the deputy. She received minor injuries.
Pothen was transported to Regions Hospital, but released with only minor bumps and bruises. He is home now with his wife, and young twins.
The Ramsey County Sheriff calls the fact the deputy survived a miracle. "It looks like
God didn't want to take another Ramsey County peace officer this week, and we're glad," said Sheriff Bob Fletcher, referring to the recent murder of St. Paul police officer Gerald Vick. Vick was killed while in the line-of-duty earlier this month.
The State Patrol released the video to show the importance of the state law that requires drivers to merge into the far lane and slow down when passing a police officer stopped along side a multi-lane street or highway. The law is called the Move Over Law. No word on if the driver of the truck that hit the deputy will charged. The crash remains under investigation.
