Alltel
how many of you use Alltel phones? i just upgraded my service plan to the 1000 minute +unlimted night and weekend minutes.. anyway, with my old phone out in the country where I live (nearest town is 13 miles away) my old Nokia phone could get a signal strength of 3/4. The new phone gets 0 signal at all. Everyonce and a while it'll select tower "A" and get up to a 4/6 signal, still no where near what the old phone got. It keeps selecting tower "D" though and I get 0 signal through that tower. I cannot select which tower it gets its signal from though, it'* totally automatic and won't let you change it. The funny thing is, my old phone couldn't get a signal in big towns, but the new phone can, and the old phone got a great signal in the country, this one doesn't. What is up with that? I do mostly country driving so I need the signal from where I live, not really in a big down. The dealer mentioned that this new phone was Digital while my old one was analog. Could this have something to do with maybe the towers in my area being old, and that is why my new phone doesn't communicate with them well like my old phone did? This kind of sucks, I love the phone... when I can get a signal. :(
This is the new phone http://www.alltel.com/estore/wireless/phones/vx3100a/
EDIT: I figured out what the "A" and "D" stand for on the phone..
A is for analog and D is for digital (duh.) lol. anyway, how can I set it for analog seems how that'* all I have around my area? :?

ok, I tried the LG phone out for a week and would like to get rid of it. Everywhere I go, I hardly get a signal unless I am within a mile or two of a tower. My old phone was a Nokia and I get a full signal nearly everywhere I go. The LG will show 1 bar of signal almost all the time and the only time it goes higher is if I am inside of town right near a tower. Other than that, the bars never go up on it. My question, is if motorolla makes a better phone than what LG makes. I would like to upgrade to the motorolla phone shown here:

OR

anybody have any experience with either of these two phones? I'm hoping the motorolla has better reception.

It just has to do with analog / digital.. you cant pick your towers... I would go back to alltel and get a different phone if you dont get a good signal.

Both phones are digital phones. However, one thing I just noticed is that with the LG when you make a call and its on digital int he middle of the call almost everytime it switches to analog instead of digital and you get just solid static when it does this. when it'* on digital it'* clear, evne when there'* only 1 bar of reception. The Nokia on the other hand will stay on Digital until the signal is not available at all. The digital signal seems to be absolutely superior quality wise compared to the analog. By signal reception I was just giong by what the display says. the nokia is almost always 3 bars out of 4, while the LG is 1 out of 6 usually. maybe the reception is there, it just doesn't show up on the display? I only have dropped calls it seems when it switches to analog int he middle of a call. the motorolla phones apparently have really bad reviews while the LG is somewhat good. it'* a tough decision for sure. :(
btw, the Nokia will let me choose digital/analog, the LG is totally automatic and will not let you choose which you want to use. The LG is also apparently rated best in signal quality according to where I bought it from. :?
