Default Winter is here, time for a FIREPLACE

I have never lived in a house with a fireplace, nor been really exposed to a nice crackling fire on a cold evening. My sister and her family recently moved into a home with a fireplace and I realized how NICE it is to sit near the fire and watch it. Sure has me looking for ways to add a fireplace/wood stove to 'casa de crzydmnd72' LOL

edited to add...

I have been sketching out plans to add on to our house soon (when money becomes a little less scarce) and this is almost exactly how I visioned the den. I probably should find a software program that will help me plot all this, I have been doing it the old way with a scale and pencil, have about 5 sketches that have the outside dimensions of the addition firmly in place, but I cant decide on the final interior plan. Add to this that I am not a designer or architect, and I keep revising the silly plans LOL. but I know what I want the hearth to look like

I love our fireplace!! So romantic (coming from a guy who barely knows what romantic means).

When I was in high school, I was in an architectural design class and we learned to do floor plans using AutoCad. It was extremely basic and accurate. Fun to mess around on, too.

maybe u should look into a gas fireplace... they r way lower maintenance.... or ive seen people with real fireplaces with fake fire logs that have a light in them, maybe u could make a fake fireplace for it to go into, but nothing replaces a real woodburning fire.

yeah I want it to be a woodburner for sure. something about it just appeals to be. My brother saw me working with my pencil, scale and square and offered to find his old Autocad software from school and let me try to learn it. He'* a busy guy though. Will it also do 3d renderings and virtual walk thrus? I have heard these programs advertised, havent found, nor looked very hard for one yet.
