olmpus has their share of crappy cameras (cheap ones), but their high end is much better for the price than canon that I've seen.

on the camera you bought, the sample photos look very good for a non-dslr

if i had 1,200$ and also had $400 for a Video camcorder i would have got a SLR

But i wanted something better then my PS A520 and something that takes good videos.

The S5 IS takes VERY good videos in Stereo and as you can tell the photos are very good also.
Trust me after seeing my Brothers SLR XTi on saturday, i really want one. but its WAY out of my price rang for a while now :(

this will hold be over for a few years

Why does everybody think only SLRs take great pictures. Sure they do but I have seen many cheaper digital cams lately that rival thier prints.

Because the quality of the image is not derived from the amount of megapixels, rather the quality of the lens that is attached to the camera as well as the type/qualty of image sensor used. D-SLR'* usually come with much higher quality lens'*, plus better sensors (CMOS vs CCD)

More information between the sensor differences:

Regardless, I do hate the fact that my slr does not do video.....

SLRs do have other disadvantages too besides the price, It fit my needs but does not the majority of the populations needs.

Hans. not true. By the sounds of it. the Lens that comes with the XTi sucks

Every says just buy the body... then get a 400+$ lens...

But yeah.. Shadow, trust me. SLR takes WAY better pics then any non SLR.

after seeing my brothers pics in full rez its amazing

You've never pushed the point and shoot to its (low) limits - or you've never really used an SLR. Believe me, point and shoot cameras do NOT approach the quality of SLR cameras, period.

I'm not a fan of Olympus DSLR due to their poorer high ISO noise performance and the quirky four thirds sensor / lens system. But they're decent bang for the buck.

Nor am I a fan of the S5 IS. Gimme the G9

Hot shoe for flash, RAW mode, Canon'* top notch point and shoot. But for the money, I'd have a DSLR, a Nikon D40 is the same price

edit: Ryan, the 18-55mm kit lens that comes with the XTi doesn't suck. If it did, then the 18-250 Tamron is worse.

Quick Reply: Ok... so yea... i did a impulse buy again...
