ok, backround story. my aunt'* boyfriend owns an 05 or 06 mustang gt, black, and a truly sexy car. now he was driving up from chicago to visit my aunt, and got pushed into the ditch by a semi truck that was switching lanes. and something in the steering or front suspension got messed up so it wasnt drivable. so he left the car where the accident happened and got it fixed there. now supposedly it runs and drives perfectly normal, but i guess the new paint isnt PERFECT (who knows because my aunt is really particular, so its probably fine) and now i guess he is considering selling.

now the point of the story, i have the chance to buy a 05 (or 06) black mustang gt, for $8,000

i dunno what to do

That'* quite a high price as compared to a Bonneville. Need I show you a video of 1337ssei'* 97 SSEi beating a friend'* 98 Mustang GT? What do you really get with a Mustang? A cramped 2-door coupe. For $8,000, you could get Merlin'* black 97 SSEi and $500 to spare, which is already far, far more modded than 1337ssei'* car.

Including the purchase price, all the repair and parts money, but excluding oil changes and windshield washer fluid, my 94 SSEi cost me just over $2000. The 99 SLE was $3900, and both cars are paid off. I have two luxury sedans with leather, and they're really dependable. Neither of them has been in an accident, and they've never needed such a repair as you've mentioned the Mustang has had.

There'* a huge difference between "runs fine" and "is fine." If this guy'* 05-06 Mustang really is fine, then he doesn't want to sell it for $8,000. You'll once again be Bonneville-less, and you won't have such an excellent car as you could for far, far less.

I would consider what you might pay for insurance on a car like that. Usually for younger drivers, rates are very high. Make sure this is something you are prepared to deal with. Many buy a car and then realize afterwards they can't afford to drive it (this carries on to include maintenance costs, fuel, etc. as well).

Otherwise, do what you believe is right for you. If it'* a car you want and it'* within your budget go for it. Be sure to have it inspected to avoid any surprises and make sure it drives well. Use a shop that has a good reputation and be sure to disclose the reasons you want the inspection.

Yeah, techinically you could get a very nice bonneville for that price. The on the the bonne doesn't have on the mustang, though, is RWD. For me, that was a huge deal. I loved everything about the car, except the FWD. That'* my biggest complaint though.

And radomir, you can't really compare an 05 to a 98, there'* a huge difference.

What? They're still using the 4.6L SOHC, right? I think the newer ones are heavier, too.

Power output for the 98: 225/290
Power output for the 05: 300/320.
Big difference.
Edit: Oh yeah, and it is SOHC still, though most of the other 4.6s in that power range are the 32 valve DOHC.

you need to see it any know the problems before you dream about it anymore

That'* quite a high price as compared to a Bonneville.
HUH? Have you seen any 05 Bonnevilles selling for $8k? No. A 98 GT and 05 GT are completely different.
