Default My Bonneville was broken into!!

I was working on my bonneville last saturday afternoon, and left it parked outside overnight (which is a rarity). The next morning I was going to get breakfast for my family in my wifes car. I saw something that looked liked mine in the alley behind my neighbors garage, I stopped and it was mine. My stomach dropped when I saw my front pass door cracked open. I swear I locked it, I always do. After a quick survey I found they got away with my digital camera and radar detector. I came to grips with the fact I left the doors unlocked and it was a random crime. On wedesday I was cleaning it out, the first time I had been in the car since then. I found a key in the pass rear floor board. Again my stomach dropped. This key does EVERYTHING. When I bought the car I only had one key and fob, I had a fob made and a key cut for my wife. The found key matches mine exactly (Placement and size of the PK3), its very different than my wifes. How did somebody get an original key to my car? How did somebody know that key fit my car? It looks nothing like it did when I bought it. My question is, Can I have the car re-coded? Keys, fobs, all of it at a decent cost? Is there a way to tell how many keys and fobs are coded to my car?

And I didnt get breakfast that morning!

You can get the FOB reprogrammed but that can only be done with a tech2 at a dealership.

Can only be changed with a tech2. As long as the numbers on the FOB are right, it will be programmed for the car.

Amazingly, keys will fit multiple cars. My 79 Camaro key worked in all the Chevy 79 Malibu Police cars in the PD I worked for. We had department master keys issued to us that would fit in all the PD cars, however; it did not work in my Camaro. When you think about how many cars there are out there, it'* impossible to have a key that is designed for just one car and one car only.

When I worked for Avis Rent A Car, all we had to do was type the VIN into the computer, and that cars key code would come up, and we put a blank into the machine, type in the code and voila- keys to that car.
