i've had a fiero with a 4.9 (this swap is what'* called a cadero) the 4.9 responds well to simple hot rodding tricks such as porting polishing and mild headwork. it'* two major advantages are it'* lightweight construction (a 4.9 block weights less than 40 lbs!) and the extreme low cost of the motor and swap. i built a a high 13 second fiero for a friend for under $2000. total cost.
and with the exception of the sbc, which is immensly expensive ($3000 and you haven't bought the car or the engine yet) and doesn't actually fit in the engine bay (frame needs to be notched) the 4.9 can produce some of the quickest low end times. it'* an 1/8th mile monster.
