Default My Blazer is Knocking (Pinging)

hi all, im getting some pinging coming from my blazer, it only happens when the engine is warmed up, and ive tried using premium which seems to help but i want to fix the problem the right way

so my question is, where is a good place to start looking for the cause of my knock?

Put a screwdriver to your ear and then point it to where you think it is.

Carbon hotspot? New plugs and one isn't the right one?

Remember, the pointy end DOES NOT go in your ear...

hmm, it maybe be the plugs... i guess theyre a little old, less than 2 years tho :?

is the screw driver necessary? i thought that was more for finding a mechanical knock, not a pre detonation knock...

Check the timing? Maybe the distributor came loose. It did a few times on my 4.3 TBI in my '88 Blazer.

Pinging can be a number of issues, one thing mentioned above, carbon hot spots on pistons, I used Sea Foam on my 93 SSEi, it wasnt to bad though, your Blazer could be though. A good tune up will do wonders if u havent done so already. Lots of things to cover. Air filter, fuel filter, pcv, plugs, wires, cap and rotor if so equipped.

ill check the timing when i get a chance...maybe the cap got put on slightly off...

im gunna do a full tune up next time i am home, the wires and cap and rotor are less than 3 months old. the air filter is less than 6 months old and is a K&N.

the oil pressure is good, well as good as a 13 year old engine can be... roughly 40 psi when fully warmed up at crusing speeds.

i dont have access to a scan tool, sadly im up at school and i dont know of anyone/ anywhere that would even have anything... but i may try to when i go back home and see if my friend has one.

im just trying to get ideas of where to start first, the only tools i have here are a screwdriver, hammer and a few other misc items.

thanks for the suggestions so far guys
