Any Electrical Engineers? Laptop inquiries

Tried googling.. but being up at the cottage.. the internet has become the interWAIT on 1X wireless dial up.

Basically.. I want to know wat wattage it would be from a 12V source to run something at 19V @ 3.46 Amps ( not including resistance and power loss etc.. )

J Wikoff 09-06-2006 04:26 PM

3.46 amps at 19V gives you 65.74 watts.

J Wikoff 09-06-2006 04:37 PM

And 5.48 amps at 12V

Cheetah 09-06-2006 05:32 PM

Amps (A) 3.46 x Voltage (V or E) 19=65.75 Watts (W)

Sounds like your trying to run a laptop

J Wikoff 09-06-2006 05:34 PM

Oh, DC Voltage x current (amps) = Power (watts)

Drifter420 09-06-2006 05:36 PM

so how much wattage at 12V would it take to equal 19V @ 65.75

Cheetah 09-06-2006 05:37 PM

You really can't make 12 volts = 19 volts. You need a converter (DC-DC)

Drifter420 09-06-2006 05:41 PM

Yes its running a laptop.. Long story short.. just wondering how much wattage/amperage it would draw on the car and or on the generator ( at the cottage ) to run the laptop..

Cheetah 09-06-2006 05:42 PM

The voltage "pushes" the amps or current. You have to have some way of coming up with the 19 volts first

J Wikoff 09-06-2006 05:45 PM

If you are plugging your laptop into the car with a convertor, it will pull the same wattage.
