I used to drive 45-50min one way to work. The drive was no big deal for me. I enjoy turning up the radio and crusing. But I did get sick of the extra time spent before and after work. 9 to 10.5hr work day plus 1.5 to 2 hrs driving makes for little time to do much at home after eating and such. My drive was at 60-65mph and economy was as expected for having some mods to the car and a heavy foot at times, average 23-24mpg with some city driving.

OK, I do not know when I will be coming back to the 48; but I am up here for a guarnteed 4 years.
For those who are not familar with the military, we get what is called BAH (Basic Allowance For Housing) which is 761 / month.
I cannot see being up here 4 years, dumping money down the throat of an apartment with nothing gained at the end of it.
I have never bought a house before, so I thought this would be a good place to start. I have seen a few posts on houses, so I thought I would start one myself.
BTW:
Thank you everyone for signing my check every month.

By rounding off (one hour at 60MP with 30 MPG), you're looking at about 2 gallons each way. Granted, that'* a well tuned engine, no rush hour type traffic, and maybe using the cruise control (yeah, I know....)
