Ok, friend is going to inherit his grandma'* 87 pontiac 6000. It'* in pretty good shape, only 50k miles. Is the 2.8L a 90* V6 or a 60* V6? Are there any major issues to deal with. I know there is typically issues down the road with GM 90* V6'*....

Yup, it is a 60 degree, and specs are -
Engine Description (LB6) 2.8L 60 degree V6
Horsepower (HP@RPM) 130
Torque (ft-lbs@RPM) 160
Block Cast Iron
Heads Aluminum
Valves 12
Displacement 2.8L (2800cc, 173ci)
Cylinders 6, V formation, opposed 60 degrees
Bore 89mm (3.503")
Stroke 76mm (2.992")
Compression Ratio 8.9:1
Fuel Management PFI (Port Fuel Injection). Electronic, controlled by ECM
Type Gen II (2nd Generation)\
Head gaskets are usually not a problem on these 2.8'*. There are a few members on a-body.net with 220k+ with no problems.

DJ.... This will be a good Car, and even better yet if its attached to the 440-T4 Trans..
The 2.8 is a little underpowered, But a good little engine that will last a long time as long as he keeps the oil changed.... If this car develops a nasty oil leak that can't be found... It will usually be the oil pump drive shaft seal... This is an extremely common problem on all of the DIS 2.8,3.1'*, 3100'* and 3400'*....
The One thing that he will want to make sure he doesn't do is run the car hot... This is were most people end up with problems with these alluminum head engines...
With the low miles it should be a good car

It'* VERY underpowerd car but it has been reliable so far. He took off the tranny pan not too long ago and did a flush. Everything seemed to look fine.
It'* an LE and is bare bones, which it typically a good thing for cars of that era....
