GTP Comp G 24 hour test drive true?
I saw a commercial during Nascar for the new comp G, breifly mentioning something about 24 hour test drive.(I dont watch much tv) Gm please just gimme an hour.
Anyways. It was a guy drivin this thing like it was stolen, 5 speed? and shift on the wheel? Then they started taking about onstar being able to locate your car if it was stolen, then buddy pulls up to a road block. See it?

Saw it. There were actually two different commercials during the race. I saw more than one button/switch on the wheel being pressed during that commercial, and none of them were for the stereo. What gives?

The 24 hour test drive is kind of a tricky name. What it really is, is that when purchasing, during the first 24 hours, they have to rake it back. No questions. Any time after that, they can do their normal trick of "Why?..." "Sorry, but..." or "Are you sure we can't work this out..."

so in theory we should be able to add that kinda feature ( minus how much it would cost ) onto our 96+ bonnies since its also electronically controlled right? find a way to bypass the shifter column and have it rigged so we can use a switch to get it to change gear? woo hoo.. thats just a fancier shifting stead of using your shifter ( being sarcastic ).. now if they find a way to allow you to short shift a manual ( without havin to depress all the way down and having the clutch pedal up so high then we're talking ). I wonder if they have a powered assist clutch system for a manual? thats gimmick to me.. personal preference.. let me slap on a Type R sticker on my shifter and I think I can go just as fast shifting thru my shifter then the button..

'96-'03 Series II still have linkage for the transmission shifer and throttle cables.
Not saying it can't be done, but my gut feeling is that it is not a weekend (or inexpensive) project.

I believe the console shifter is still there and the paddles on the steering wheel are auxiliary controls.
There is no known reduction of power lost, because the tranny is still physically connected to the engine the same way. Only the shifting linkage/cable is gone, replaced by an electronic interface between the shifter and the transmission.
Theoretically, you could borrow someone'* car (with this feature) and install a remote receiver in parallel with their tranny control. Then you could follow them around town and shift for them using your transmitter. This would be especially useful if you wanted to race them and insure victory by not letting them get out of first gear.
