Default Fell off Cliff - My $100,000 Injury - Page 9 UPDATE (pics)

Yeah I've been gone for a while. I was out camping and I climbed up a little hill to take a leak, this was after my friends went to sleep, I was on my way back to my tent however I went a different way than what I came and did not notice there was a mini cliff on one side of the mountain. After I fell about 8 feet I landed on my right leg which at the time was overextended. This was no good. I was about 100 feet from my friends however they we were tented up on the edge of the river (rapids) and they could not hear me. At this point I tried to get up and walk, I fell down this time. I got up again and remember my leg swinging out to the side and the knee cap poking thru my skin. I lost concisouness at this point. from some time between 12pm or so on Friday Night and 7:45 in the morning I dragged myself about 25 feet.

At around 7:45am someone in a Jeep found me as I guess I was close to a 4x4 trail. thre cops were called and I was carried to the ambulance. I was hypothrermic as I had been out in the below freezing tempertures with just a t-shirt for 7 hours. My blood pressure was 235 over 130. Pulse was probably up there too. I was in shock I guess. Either way they were saying I should have had a stroke or died.

We got to the hospital and they managed to get my leg back to where it should be. The problem is its my right leg. I managed to destroy my PCL, ACL, MCL and LCL. I also lost all the nerves in my leg in the process. I go in for surgery soon, the swelling will have to stop. They say I still have a slight chance of walking again if the surgeries go ok. I get to go on vacation out of state since the doctor I was working with has only seen this type of injury twice before.

If this did not happen my insurance company could have purchased 2 GXPs or 10 nice SSEis. 3 days worth of work at the hospital. Yeah I guess Intensive care and MRIs and stuff are expensive.

and I know y'all want to see pics.

My goodness, Hans. I'm glad you're still with us. That'* a terrible experience

I hope you all the best in the surgeries and recovery process. I've had to undergo a couple knee surgeries (not near as extreme as your situation), and I can attest that having a really good work ethic in post-op physical therapy makes things a lot easier. If you really push yourself and view your physical therapists as allies in the recovery process, you'll see results. Your leg may never regain full strength, but follow your doctor'* instructions implicitly and you'll do well.

Keep your chin up, brother.

Oh dude, wow. Hopefully everything heals up nicely, and WOW to that blood pressure, I knew someone that had their blood pressure go that high and she had a stoke but luckily survived. Get well.
