20 years old!

Just lurking around the General chat and Lounge area, from the looks of the first posts, this forum started in May or June of 2002.

Happy 20 year birthday bonnevilleforum.com!

Wow!

So much has happened since then!

Including the end of Pontiac.

At least it lives on as GMForum.

Right. LOL

Okay, see if this looks correct: https://www.gmforum.com/general-gm-c...27/#post282001

The problem is that the date on that post is 1969-12-31 05:00 which is somewhat before the technology existed for web forums.

If this is really the first post, then the best I can figure out is that the first post is sometime shortly before 2002-01-10 17:58 based on this post: https://www.gmforum.com/general-gm-c...27/#post282019

This does fit nicely with Teuobk's join date of 2002-01-05.

Based on all of this, I believe it is safe to say that the forum was born on January 5, 2002 and the first post was sometime shortly before January 10, 2002.

Thoughts?

I seen the 1969 posts, but just assumed the server date was not set correctly. So I kinda averaged it based on the threads in the General chat section.

And if I recall, Teuobk was the ORIGINAL site owner.

Which is even weirder because most computers when turned on after BIOS power loss, revert back to the build date of the motherboard.

CathedralCub Sep 13, 2022 11:55 PM

Yeah from what I can tell he was. The starting date (like in the BIOS) is different from one computer to another, and software as well. I don't know what was used and what wasn't set right, but with a date that far back, I bet it was the back-end database.

If I recall in conversation YEARS ago, he started this forum on an old tower server in his dorm closet. I'm surprised he was able to if broadband wasn't really around back then.

LOL I can believe it! That kind of thing that happened a lot back then.

Without the ads, this forum's pages are pretty lean and mean. I remember years ago when I started looking around here, so many pictures wouldn't show because they were hosted elsewhere like Imgur and Flickr, and the supporting accounts were left to expire. That definitely cut down on traffic pushed out of the server.
