1994 olds cutlass supreme
my girlfriend needs a cheap car, and we found a 94 cutlass supreme with about 204k for (i think) $600. They said the only thing wrong with it is it won't start (apparently the "flywheel" is bad).
anyway, my question is, do any of you know about these cars or motors (3400), and if the "flywheel" often goes bad? i've worked on 350's and my own 3800 and i can't imagine how one would go bad...i'm gonna look at it today to see if i can learn more about it. any advice? someone own one of these? |
Flywheel, no.
LIM gaskets, head gaskets, yes. Notorious for those. Stay away from that car. |
hmmm, the 3400 never found its way into the cutlass supreme, the only olds' that had that motor was the silhouette and the alero
the 94 should have the 3100 or the 3.4 DOHC, those 2 are completely different engines, we would need to know which one to help you with it. |
i'm pretty sure it's the 3.4 DOHC, but idk for sure
Edit: looked at the ad, 3.4 engine, so it'd be the DOHC |
Stay away. They eat head gaskets.
|
Agreed. Stay away. The 3.4 DOHC has a plethora of problems, and they aren't exactly the most fun engine to work on.
|
will stay away. thank you for the advice.

Not a broken flywheel. The FLEXPLATE that attaches the torque convertor to the crankshaft is what is broken. Actually, it's more likely that some of the teeth on the flexplate that the starter engages are what is broken.
