Default New car!

Ok, well, I got an old car, but it'* new to me.
You might remember that Pinky got himself a 92 Shadow ES about a month and a half ago, well, it'* sitting in my parents' driveway right now, waiting for me to get tags for it, so I can move it to the apartment. Gave him enough for it that he should be able to get the nosedrive rebuilt on the SSEI, plus a few other things. I've been looking for one with a V6 and a 5spd for a while. My Bro has a 93 Duster, which is the Plymouth version of the car, but his 5spd is a swap, so some things never quite worked right. In spite of that, it'* still a nasty-fun little beasty, and I was impressed by it. So when the opportunity came, I jumped.
Anyway, Pinky had started to do some tune-up work on the Shadow and gottten stalled, so me and my Bro went up on Saturday to finish that up and bring it home. Basically, we had to put in a new radiator, and finish up putting in the injectors, and replace the distributor cap and rotor, along with some fuel and vacuum lines.
Then we adjusted the timing as well as we could,(damn thing was missing the index marks!?) and drove it home. It was crackling and backfiring like mad every time I jumped off the gas or dowshifted, but it got me home.
I'll get plates next weekend, and then we can start getting it finetuned, starting with getting an exhaust on it(missing behind the cat) and replacing the valve-stem seals.

I already have a list of mods planned for it that would impress most hot-rodders, including hogging out the intake and getting some headers fabbed. I'm also going to see what I can do in the way of a P&P job on the heads (Mr. Wren and Mr. Bostick may get asked to consult on that), and find some Mitsubishi Diamante cams, which offer a little more lift and duration for a coupla bucks at the JY.
All that will be in aid of the biggest modification: I'll be putting in 10:1 pistons, bored .030 over, when I do the bottom end rebuild.
Obviously, the rest of the car will be getting some upgrades too. I'll be looking for a 95 Neon manual steering rack, a New Yorker equal-length half-shaft setup, fabbing front and rear tower-bars, boxing the rear axle, a bigger sway-bar up front, and getting new struts up front and coil-overs in the rear, all adjustable, of course. Brakes are also getting upgraded, minivan discs up front, Charger vented rear discs, and a larger master cylinder off the minivan.
I should have a nice little road-racer ready to go by this time next year. I may take a look at SCCA class rules, but I'm not all that worked up about competing, I just want a car that'* gonna be a ton of fun to drive.

And don't worry, the PA hasn't gone anywhere, although it'* got a trans problem right now. Whining very loudly from the bell-housing, pretty sure it'* just the TC going. I'll be getting that fixed before I delve into modding the Shadow. What I won't be doing is adding any new mods to it for a while. It'* just too damned expensive to do anything big on it. That'* why I bought the Shadow, for a cheap, easy little project car. So, the PA will be relegated to daily-driver, although I may go in for some appearance modding on it later on.

BTW, yes, I know this thread is worthless without pics, but I'm on the road right now, so you can damn well wait till the weekend. Besides, I guarantee plenty of WIP pics as the car evolves.

Brian..Glad to hear you got something you will enjoy and can mess around with a little easier than the PA.

As far as calling me on heads..uh.. I dunno a think about porting them up. Wish I did though.

And in my typical sense of humor.. remember "Friends don't let friends drive Dodge.....get out and push like the rest!"
