Hello from Albuquerque
Hi. I have inherited my father'* 2002 Bonneville after his recent death. My husband and I have always driven pretty old cars (1966 Mustang; 1989 Oldsmobile; 1994 Subaru) and it'* been nice to be driving around in a "grownup" car where mostly everything works. Anyway, noticing the intermediate steering shaft klunky noises and discovered your website while googling around for info on the noise. My dad had an extended service contract on the car, but I have an inherent suspicion of dealerships, so I thought I should research first. Your site has been a great help already and I will be back.

Many have found our club the same way. Glad you decided to join and introduce yourself. A wealth of information has been collected here to help Bonneville owners make informed choices and decisions (we also happen to have a bunch of fun along the way).
The intermediate shaft is servicable by the dealer, and although you are reluctant (and rightfully so) of dealerships, if the car is still under warranty, you may want to let them tackle it rather than do it on your own.

And I second Echo'* opinion that the repair might be better serviced by the dealer. By now, they know that this is an issue with your year Bonnie and should have the experience and TSBs to repair it correctly.

Welcome to our group, and if you hadn't seen it yet, there is a new intermediate shaft that is now being used, that has a different upper U-joint. Have them replace the shaft with the new one, not just grease the old one.
