Glad I found you guys. I am the proud owner of two Bonneville Lemons. The 2000 SE I only owned for 45 days and during the time I was in 9 loaner/rental cars for a total of 21 days. I never even got the 2000 back, I made the mistake of finding 2002 SE at the same dealership that almost identical to 2000 with less miles and for 2,000.00 more. They tried to depreciate the 2000 by 600.00 but I made a big stink especially since I'd already had to fork out a couple a hundered towards the extended warranty. I had major leak issues in the trunk and all the doors. During one rain storm I had enough water in the back floors ( about 6" deep) that I could float rubber duckies. It took three tries before they corrected that problem and despite the fact that they cleaned the carpets it still smelled like something died in my car. Then one day I went to make a right turn only the car wouldn't turn right then it eventually did all on it'* own and then I tried to go left, but it would go left. At 49,00 miles and another 100.00 later towards the warranty and they had to replace the rack as a tooth was missing. 12 days after this fiasco the catalyticc converter went. Despite the fact they told me the part was being overnight................. well can you say 7 days later and my car still was sitting at the dealership waiting for parts

That'* when I made the mistake of finding the 2002 SE on their website! Two days after bringing that car home I opened up the trunk to find about 5" of moss covered stinky old water in the wheel well. Let'* just say my first drive through the car wash produced the same leaks the other car had. Once again I was in a loaner car. Again it took them three tries until they got the car to quit leaking. I had it in a couple of times for the steering column. I've been blowing bulbs in the rear lights (no, I'm not touching them with my bear hands) and up until last week was doing good until the rear drivers side window starting going down by itself during the rain of course. (AND THOUGHTS HOW I FOUND YOU ALL TODAY). God I love google. I was searching for the "regulator" at a cheaper cost as right now the place I take my car too said they could only get an OEM part for about 370.00 and it would cost about 500.00 to repair....... so the panel is in my trunk because I told them not to put it back on the door and window is DUCT TAPED UP. I still had to stick a wedge in to try to keep it up. THEN THE KICKER CAME TODAY! The dang check engine light came on and so now the car is going to the shop to be diagnoised tomorrow morning.

DOES IT EVER END????????? I just hit 80,064 miles and I have 9 more payments. I was hoping to keep this one for a while. Last year I was talking to the salesman at the dealership about the G6'* and he told me if I thought the Bonneville was a lemon the G6 was even worse. Yikes. I kinda like the G8, but everyone I work with said. NO MORE PONTIACS!

I'll miss my comfy rider when I get her paid off.

Sounds like you had a rough time, but I do offer this: We as a collective have experienced an array of problems, including those you mention, and with it have aquired a lot of knowledge about it. With a little bit of time reading previous posts, and making new posts about your specific issues, you should be able to get the issues solved. If you are mechanically inclined, or have a friend/relative who is, we can also provide many solutions to these issues that will save you money versus taking it to a dealership.

The regulator issue is a known one, and there are several topics on it. Use the search and you should be able to find them.

As for the water leak, this is more prevelent in the older generations who'* seals are shrinking and such with age, but could be an issue with the newer gen. Couple questions for you in regards to this:

1) do you have a sunroof?
2) are the door seals in the upper corners of the car still tight in the corners, or can you see gaps?
3) How do the battery cables look? is there any corrosion?
4) Have the tail lights been removed at all?
5) does it have a trailer hitch?

I would suggest making a new topic for your issues in the 2000-2005 section, and include this information.

Hope we can help you solve the issue you have, and possibly help you keep the car longer than til the payments are done.

I've felt like you're feeling right now. It sucks, I know, but I live with it. GMs are the only cars I feel comfortable in. I don't know why, but it'* true. They have plenty of power and they're the most softest riding cars I've ever been in. I, myself, justify the repairs knowing that I wouldn't be remotely happy in anything else.

You might want to check ebay or www.car-part.com. I had to replace a regulator in one of my friends 01 SSEi. One of those sites should yield you a regulator for under 15% of the price you were quoted.

Or, if you're good with tools....repair it yourself.

I'd suggest kicking off your shoes and staying a while, but your feet may get wet.

The best way to go that we've found is to fix the regulator with the link in Archon'* post. The fix does not appear to break, replacement regulators have been known to go again.

See I knew I found the right place! Thanks for all the info. This weekend looks to be a rainy one so I plan on doing some research. Actually I've been an eBay buyer and seller since 1999 so I'm going to take a look there.

I got the water issues corrected immediately so I don't have that problem anymore.

OH yeh I forgot to tell you. I did own a 1982 Bonneville drove it till it had about 190,000 miles on in. finally couldn't drive it anymore the frame was rusting out and when you drove down the freeway the backend kinda had a mind of it'* own and then there was this major oil leak. We drove it to the salvage yard. Man those cars were made well. Hardly had any rust.

We won't talk about the peeling/bubbling paint on this car. (Another issue the dealer blew me off on, despite what it says in the owners manual) I 'll save it for another section.
