Hi,

I've only been on this site a short time so figured I'd introduce myself and perchance gain some insight into optional upgrades to my first Chevy.

I'm a 55 yr old father of 3 living in Ontario Canada. My DYI attitude appeared with my first dirt bike - a 74cc mish-mash of Kawasaki, Honda and whatever else could be slung to it. I've owned 6 motorcycles and over a dozen cars. always doing my utmost to keep them from professional mechanics - early on, not so much to my benefit.

I've done just about all that can be done to a car except an engine rebuild and that I've done on a bike. So I have a good level of experience and not much intimidates me.

So, to present day...A few months ago, I bought a '99 Chevy Malibu for $450. The body has one large issue around the gas filler cap but otherwise is in really good shape (it was till some dickless p.o.* scraped 2 parallel lines, back to front last Feb).

I've had to replace the brakes (rotors, pads, shoes and some line) and the serpentine belt. Normal maintenance stuff like oil, oil & air filters, brake fluid etc were also performed.

I still have to replace plugs & wires, an O2 sensor and do body work.

What I'm ultimately interested in is what possible, inexpensive mods can I make to this 3.1L V6 to improve performance and/or gas mileage.

at this pint, I'm really more interested in improving performance - not that this car has issues, far from it but...hey...I want to go FASTER! This car was owned by someone'* Grandfather then handed to his Grandson for 1 year at college then passed to the folks I got it from for 2 yrs.

It performs amazingly well. With no intent, I often come off a green light with wheel spin - no, not a little 'chirp' like a Toyota Tercel....wheel spin.

So, all that said....what can I do for more horses and what will it cost?

Brian

Welcome to the forums Brian!
We share a lot in common, like working on cars & bikes eh? I've got an older 650C, now stage 3.
So I take it someone keyed the Malibu, that sucks, any way insurance would cover it?
Feel free to post a few photos if you like, see link in my signature line.

As this is the Introduction section, not too many members look here.
For better responses, I would recommend a new thread for your Malibu performance upgrade questions, in the Chevrolet Section.
