Hi, guys, I 'm a student in Purdue. Just got my 2002 Bonny in May 2008 when it was on 82000 miles. Really happy I bought it. No major problems occurred except the battery failure last year. Happy again to find such a great forum, and I have a lot of questions about the first car of mine. I should have been here earlier. I took some pics and here we go
btw, my name is Hoo

Thank you Dan. Let me pop up the quick question now. Once on a parking lot, I hit on a curb, then the oil filter was decimated. The engine oil dripped down to ground. For quick repair I drove it for 1 mile to the repair shop with big noise coming from the engine. After replacing new oil and filter, the noise was gone.
Later I knew I should make it towed. Do you have any idea that how much I hurt the engine by driving that 1 mile? I hope it'* not a big deal.

That will depend on how much oil was not in the engine. If half the oil was gone there will still be enough to circulate and keep the bearings oiled. If you lost enough that the lifters started to loose oil pressure then the bearings could have also lost pressure. If that happened then you caused wear. How much wear you did I can't say. If the engine runs fine now, you should be OK, but you will likely run in to bearing problems a bit sooner.

Actually there was very little oil remained. It is 18 months from the collision, and the MPG keeps round 20 for city commuting. It seems as good as before the collision.
but what is lifter doing? don't quite understand this term.

Yeah that tapping sound is what I heard. So I tried to drive as slow as I could to limit the wear.
I know someone drive a Toyota Camery without engine oil and there is no obvious noise coming out. Maybe the engine designs for the two model are so different.

another question:
what would happen if the driving belt breaks suddenly during the drive? I saw a little crack on the driving belt beside the engine. so I really concerned about that.
