Greetings from the D (new here)

Hello all,

I am new to the site and I wanted to say hello. I have a big job ahead of me and I am hopeing that all of you can help me.

I just purchased my younger brothers car (he is moving to the west coat) because he need the money fast. I got it for 500 bucks and its got 100K on it. (1992 Bonneville SE)

It needs allot of work. new fender front facia and it is starting to rust just a little on the pass. wheel well. The biggest problem is that it has a very loud knock, he says his friend told him that it is only running on 5 sylinders. WTF is all I could say.

Since this is a project for me (I already have a 2004 FX4 Ranger as a daily, sorry but its a Ford, still American, right!?!?)

What I am thinking is, fix the motor and rebuild the trans (any ideas on how to fix it) and make the outside look like a late model SSEI. I am ver knowledable in cars, but not front wheel drive. I am also an amature painter, I have painted several things from tractors (old John Deeres) and a motorcycle. I was going to attemt to paint this myself and if all goes well, I will drive it to work, I need something that gets better gas mileage anyway.

So thats my story, I am sure we will talk allot, I will be very busy with this one. Any advise on some power adder would be great, no super chargers, this is just going to be my work car, I have a camper and a boat that I use on the weekends so the truck will be used most of the time other than the daily commute.

Sorry my story was so long,
Chris

Welcome to BC!! :D

Sounds like you have a project on your hands, but that you're capable of it! I suggest you address that knock right away. First, spend a bit of time reading some of the TECHINFO articles (above) to give you some backround, then post your issue in the 1992-1999 Mechanical section.

Dive right in, the water (er, forum) is fine.

That's hilarious!!! I'm also a huge Jack Daniel's fan. Especially the Gentleman Jack. ;)

What town do you live in?

mrbell83 04-26-2006 10:24 AM

I live in Alpena. I use to live in Macomb but I couldn't take the city any more, and living in the country required to much time and gas to get to work, so we quit our jobs packed our sh*t sold off everything and built a log home here (well the outside is log). My wife took a job at the local hospital doing medical billing, she did that before anyway, and I work for a small manufacturing company. I am kinda a newbie at everything here, I love the town and I have come up here my whole life but getting use to that small town life takes a while. Everyday i can feel myself decompressing.

Yes, I agree gentleman Jack is my favorite too, I like it on ice with nothing else.......

Thanks again for the welcome everyone.................

So, anyone know where I should start with this loud knocking noise? Also, are there any good performance parts for this normally aspirated motor? I am tearing appart anyway so give me anything I can use.........

Thanks allot guys and gals,
Chris

Welcome to BC. Is the Owl Cafe still there? My Air National Guard unit used to spend two weeks in the summer in Alpena. Drank quite a few beers there.
