And thanks heaps guys, car is a 89 model vn commodore, originally came with a series 1 engine (but not sure what you guys call it over here..) and then the L27 came out in 1992-1995, then went to ecotecs L36 & the L67 was introduced from here, just to give you guys a understanding of how behind the times we have been lol.

It'* only been in the last 8 years that companys have started to make performance parts for the v6'* so i thought i'd come and have a look and see what you guys are doing with your engine'* and what sort of power you are getting...

how much boost are you refering too? the most ive seen from a unopened turbo L27 is 289rwkw or 387.5rwhp on 19psi, altho most people dont seem to go above 14psi for reliability on a rich tune and making well over 300rwhp.. How far do you'* push the L27? or dont bother wasteing your time with it? lol
Lets put it this way. One guy tried to bolt a supercharger to a L27, since the Series 1 L67 was supercharged from the factory. His engine didn't last more than 30k miles. Not sure if your engins are different, but that'* been the consensus. The biggest difference I've seen is from porting the lower intake manifold and porting the heads. I did the job myself and can post pictures of what I did. The difference was incredible.

For boost, you'll want to find Series 1 L67 pistons and rods as those will handle boost much better, but in the end you're still working with a poorly designed set of heads with small valves. Yella terra makes a set of rockers for that engine, but I think that'* the extent of the aftermarket.

Welcome to the forum. From what I've seen you guys have taken the L27 much futher than we have in the states. I know I've seen some very healthy n/a setups and other turbo setups.

Eatons are heat guns. A well tuned turbo/intercooled L27 should take quite a bit more IMO.

Actually, you're not behind the times. You just have different names for engines. For you guys, the Series 1 and Series 2 3800s are the last of the "proper" 3800s with unevenly spaced exhaust ports, metal coolant lines, etc. Then there'* the ecotec series, which changed and had a newer version released right before no longer being manufactured about a year or two ago.

For us, the Aus Series 1 is simply the US LN3, and the Aus Series 2 is the US Series 1. Then there'* the Aus Ecotec 3800, and that'* our Series 2 3800. There is a US Series 3 3800 here, and I have an L26 upper intake manifold from one, but I'm not sure about how that'* referred to in Australia.

We were passionately discouraged by the previous forum administration from modifying L27 setups. The Australians have got it right, so check out what they're doing. We're pretty decent at modding the Aus Ecotec/US Series 2 3800s, though.

Yeah its a pity about the G8... isnt the new cevy meant to be for cop cars? Ithink i read somewhere holden was trying to get into that market.

xtremerevolution geez thats not good.. yeah the heads are a major restriction and the only real down fall for this engine.

as far as im aware the L67 pistons and rods wont fit as they are shorter... i could be wrong tho, what is the piston and rod height on the L27 and L67?? what sort of power is being made with the L67 unopened?

95naSTA im really suprised by that we have 4.2ltr and 4.3ltr stroker kits for these engines plus multipile turbo and supercharger set ups...

sseidriver97 yeah there great old engines, the only thing that seems to kill then is high revs oh and not being tuned properly

thanks for the welcomes

There'* a Series 1 L67, or an L27 with a supercharger bolted to it. The piston + rod length is the same, only they're stronger. Those pistons and rods are the only differences in the bottom end between a stock L27 and a supercharged one. Not sure if you guys even got the supercharged version, with the M62 supercharger.

thats abit rough... and fair impressed with the power the series 2 are making in the states, i think from memory aussie'* most powerful v6 is between 500-600rwhp. our first L67 came out in 1996 so it had the m90 blower. ok thanks i'll have alook at ur thread. just out of curiousity is anyone making forged oistons for the L27? i had alook on one site and could only find series 2 & 3 engine parts.

i'll find afew photo'* of turbo n supercharged setup and post a pic for you guy'* & gurls

SpinEm_90 thanks and yes i have, very nice up there!! well worth the trip wont find a place like it!!
