Hello! - Also, a dumb question for any GM employees
Hello all. First post. I have recently gotten a job at a GM facility in Michigan. I am ECSTATIC about the opportunity to work there, and love what GM'* been doing the past couple years with their products. There are a lot of GM cars out right now that I really like, and I am super excited to get there and contribute to the company as much as possible.
My question to GM employees is about my own car. I already have a relatively new car that is from a GM competitor. I enjoy this vehicle a lot. Is it improtant that I replace this car for a GM vehicle? I don't want anyone to think that I don't take pride in my work, and have no problem getting a GM car if that is the norm. My current vehicle is a car I would probably have kept for a long time otherwise and there isn't an exact GM substitute. The Cruze comes close, and I do like it a lot too, so if I have to switch it won't be a big deal. The recruiter told me what I drive doesn't matter, but i have a feeling that it does. This is probably a dumb question with an obvious answer, but I just wanted to make sure.
Thank you.

Welcome to the site. What you drive is up to you. But if you think it'* a problem, then I suggest looking around the parking lot. That will tell you what others are doing. But I'm willing to bet you will see a lot of GM brand cars.
Ps. mail me a Corvette if it'* not to much trouble.

I would have to agree with Dan, look around the parking lot. Chances are people are using their GM discounts and buying GM. Chances also are that you would be fine no matter what you are driving, but you never know how other people will feel. So it'* up to you to decide whether you are going to let other people decide how you live your life .

If it doesn't look weird, I can drop by the GM Metal Fabrication plant that I pass on the way to classes and take pictures. Quite a few people there don't drive GMs.
Also, welcome!

What facility are you going to be at? I work for a major supplier to GM and am at the Tech Center in Warren all the time, as well as occasional trips out to the proving grounds in Milford.
There are lots of GM employees that drive non-GM vehicles. From my experience, you won't have an issue driving a non-GM particularly since you owned it before working at GM. I would suggest your next purchase be a GM, particularly since you will get a nice discount.
Wear comfortable shoes to work. Any GM facility I go to has parking lots for GM products only (close to the door) and parking lots for non GM vehicles (way, way, way, way in the back). Make sure you don't park in a GM vehicle lot, or security will put one of those nasty impossible to remove stickers on the window of the driver'* door.

Welcome to GMforum.com
I dont think its weird to drive a non GM car, its not like you're delivering cars using your own non GM vehicle.
As mentioned above I (personally) would suggest if you decide to change cars in the near future, make your next one a GM, i'm assuming you'd get a good chunk off since you work there. If you just bought this car and you love it, keep it till you're sick of it.
I work in the Jewellery business, and i wear a $5000.00 watch and $4000.00 platinum ring that we dont carry in the store, I even bought them while i was working for the company.
