Question 2001 Bonneville ssei

Hello Everybody.
Just looking for opinions on this car. Thinking of buying. It has 155k w/ engine issue.
But the price is right (1000.00) and it'* from a friend who has had it looked at.
He is the original owner.
Coolant in engine, gasket, maybe a head or 2. Manifold?Whats a fair price for this type of repair?
I'm sure there will be incedentles along the way during the repair.

Thanks
Tom

$1000 for a 2001 SSEi? Great price. Coolant in engine is likely a bad LIM gasket. Those run about $45, you will also need a supercharger gasket, about $10, and a throttle body gasket, about $6. There is a write up in techinfo/mechanical about changing LIM gaskets. Give yourself 5 hours, or a weekend, your choice. Only special tool needed is a inch pound torque wrench.

Unless you know ALOT about this car/maintenance, I probably wouldn't go for it. There can always be little problems that you will come across alot and end up dumping more money into the car than you paid for it.

This. There'* a big difference between being able to do a small job like changing brake pads, and doing a major repair, especially on a ten year old car at that price. If you have friends that know what they're doing when it comes to the real in depth repairs, then go for it seems it'll cost you the parts needed and some beer. Much cheaper, and more fun than bringing it to a shop

youll have to change coolant and oil a couple times that will be more than the gaskets the way prices are getting.

and doing things yourself is the only way to get to know how to do this stuff. nobody is born knowing how to work on cars.

Fixing the coolant leak is fairly easy. Problem is, if the coolant has been there for some time there could be bearing damage in the lower end. That could get expensive.

if those r the only problems, its not a bad deal, but i would get under it and inspect the unibody for rust. if the underside is rust free, no rust under gas filler and no leaks in trunk its a good buy, shoot u could part it out for more than a grand. even if u have to put a $1000 into the motor which i highly doubt u will have to its a good buy

Thanks for the reply Dan. I'm not much of a gearhead. So this will be going to the shop. I think its a good deal. I think I'll go for it. Its a sweet car.
