Old School; New Slob on the Block
Does anyone know which way to the sand box??
Hey gang, Chet here in Los Angeles . Just turned 50 n love to help people wrench on their rides. Grew up a block from Van Nuys Blvd (near Chandler Blvd). Walked to the cruising when no one would take me. Became a trucker and drove for a million miles over 20 years. Having a steering wheel in my hands has become something of an addiction
Been a Chevy fan all my life. First car was a Pontiac '65 GTO, Then a 74 Dodge Ramcharger because I wanted a 4WD they were $2,000 less than Blazers at the time! $2,300 instead of $4,300. I almost bought my brothers 1964 Thunderbird but he was being a typical brother (you know, a jerk! lol) so bought a 1980 Olds Cutlass Cruiser Wagon 3.8 V6 instead. Oh, that was my brothers too, but he wasn't being a jerk about it. He only had it for 3 months and needed an *-10 for work. I had that Buick for 15 years. I bought it at 123K and drove it to 300K.
The original owner had a brother that owned a tranny shop and put a shift kit in it. Dang thing shifted like a cop car: firm and on time. Towed a 5X7 trailer all over the western US with it loaded with 90% of the scout troop equipment. Had it loaded so heavy one time at 6,000 ft. that I was in first gear and loosing speed. At 9 MPH I radio'd the van in front of me and asked him to toss out a rope and get to pulling! That was near 300K. It wasn't long after that I took the heads in. They told me I had little compression due to 5 bent valve stems. Yikes!
Well, that car was toast after 15 years of faithful service, I junked it at a self serve type yard to give it new life for others.
Last week I was in the middle of getting another mid size going and it became more than I can bare! I'm selling it and getting another full size Buick that came up for sale. I pick up my new (to me) 1980 Buick Electra Park Avenue on Wednesday. It has the last of the 350 Buick V8'*
That'* how I found y'all; looking for Buick places to post an ad. But since I have other GM'* and a T-Bucket with a '50'* Cadillac engine, I think I'll stick around
