i agree with bill in that the diff sounds like it wont unlock. however i wouldnt goose it to try to unlock it, the g80'* are known for not being that tough when subjected to torque hits like that. change the diff fluid might possibly make it work if not to far gone.

I do seem to remember hearing a while back, that backing up perhaps 20 or 30 feet can unlock a diff/wheel hub.

that may work sometimes, ive never had an issue with it, but its been said some people put the wrong fluid in it and it sticks. I dont remember the numbers but its a specific OPEN diff fluid so i can see why some people would put LSD fluid in it mistakenly.

Only thing I can add is if a hub is sticking, it wont bounce. It will click. Both hubs needs to be locked for it to bounce. You should be able to test that by jacking up one wheel and hand turning it. If the drive shaft turns, both hubs are locked.

If the hub is locked, you won't be able to turn the wheel. It will be locked to the other wheel, which is still on the ground.

they dont have hubs, the front is like a fwd car up to the diff. there is an actuator in the front diff that engages 4wd. the only problem that may be with the front is if the front didnt have any or the wrong kind of fluid so the spider gears/diff isnt working easily that would cause the same kind of issue as the back being locked.

just a fyi for anyone who may be looking;

LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL LUBRICANT (SERVICE INFORMATION) #91-4-109
SUBJECT: LOCKING DIFFERENTIAL (G80) LUBRICANT - (SERVICE INFORMATION)
VEHICLES AFFECTED: ALL LIGHT TRUCKS EQUIPPED WITH G80 REAR AXLE ALL YEARS
Some light duty trucks equipped with locking rear axles (G80) may exhibit rear axle chatter, especially when turning a corner from a stop.
This condition of alternate engagement and disengagement of clutches in differential assembly is usually caused by contaminated axle lubricant.
To correct this condition, drain and refill the rear axle with SAE 80W-90 GL5 (P/N 10950849). The use of any additive in locking rear axles (G80) is not recommended. Rear axle additives are designed for use in limited slip differentials which are normally installed in cars. All light duty trucks equipped with RPO G80 make use of a locking differential and the use of additives will delay the engagement of the locking mechanism and may decrease axle life.
VEHICLES/COMPONENTS INVOLVED: ----------------------------- Some light duty trucks equipped with locking rear axles, RPO G80.
SERVICE PARTS INFORMATION:
Part Number Description ----------- ------------------ 10950849 Lubricant, Rear Axle (1 litre)
Parts are currently available through CANSPO.
WARRANTY INFORMATION:
As specified in Light Duty Truck Maintenance Schedules, locking rear axle fluid drain and refill is required owner maintenance at the first engine oil change. Failure to drain and refill the rear axle as specified may contribute to a later axle chatter condition. Refer to the appropriate Light Duty Truck Maintenance Schedule or service manual, section OB, for further details on change intervals.

Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.

Hmmm....WOW alot more help then I was expecting. I havent changed any of those fluids since I've owned the vehicle. I will have to start with that tommorow. As well as check and see if my diff. is locked up.

These are some excellent points. Thanks everyone! I'll let you know what I end up with.

It'* mostly bc it'* All wheel drive and I also own a 07 gmc denali and same exact thing happens to me. Best thing to help is make sure tire pressure isn't low or add a few pounds more than normal

Anyways, on to describing my problem to see what I can get out of it.

I have a 2000 Yukon Denali, 5.7 Liter, Electronic 4X4, 305/40R22 Tires on chrome rims. I have recently (last weekend) replaced my upper and lower ball joints, pitman arm, and checked over my CV joints, tie rod ends, etc.

I have been having a problem with my entire truck bouncing from side to side, wheels chirping, and hopping when pulling into parkings spaces or even while turning down curvey side roads. It sounds terrible both from outside and inside the vehicle.

My truck has always done it since I've owned it (for about two years). Although it seems to have been getting MUCH worse within the last year. I have recenlty tightened my torsion keys and lifted the front of my vehicle about 3/4 of an inch (to stop my tires from rubbing the inside of the fenders when going over train tracks, speed bumps, etc). It'* great not to have my tires rub on anything any more. However I think that it made the wheel hop/studder even worse then it was before.

I ended up getting an alignment done (as you should obviously do after messing with the torsion keys) hoping that would fix the problem. As I pulled away from the shop I quickly noticed that wasn`t the case

So now that I have pretty much wrote a book on my problem. My question would be, what the hell else could it be. It seems like I am running out of options.

I know the vehicle is not stuck in four wheel drive (although it does feel similar to driving in four wheel drive on dry pavement). After putting the vehicle up on the hoist and putting it in gear. I can see the four wheel drive is all working correctly.

ANY HELP would be great. It kills me every time I have to park my truck or turn it sharp. Feeling all the pressure that is being put on all my new front end parts.

Thank you everyone.
