Steering wheel position sensor fix

Just found out that I have a bad Steering wheel position sensor. Bad news is it is one that they do not make anymore and there seems to be no part that replaces it. It is part #15886733. I am getting a “Service Stabilitrak” warning on the message center and the service light is on. The Mechanic I use said he just changed the sensor in his wife’s car but mine is a 6 prong sensor and hers was the newer 8 prong. Does anyone know where I should go from here? Feel like taking it to the dealer but know they wouldn’t have any better fix. The vehicle is a 2008 Yukon XL 2500. Great car, but I don’t want to put my wife in it with this potential issue. Heard horror stories already about brakes locking up on the road etc. I would gladly buy the part but it’s just not available! Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Curious how this was diagnosed . . . ?

Have you tried a dealer?

Ummmm . . . the ABS will still work. Are these events that you've heard of random like "I was cruising along then suddenly the brakes locked up" or . . . ?

Brought it to my mechanic when the stability track message came on. The code read that the sensor was faulty. As far as hearing horror stories yes it and mainly things I read on the forums. I can live with the service stability track light as long as my vehicle is still safe. It is the vehicle my wife drives.

Just went to a dealer and he said he found one in another state. I’m suspect that that dealers inventory may not be up to date. If he can’t find the sensor I am going to bring it in to them just to make sure and it’s something that can’t be fixed.

Cool!

Good idea.

I had the same problem on my 2009 Yukon Denali. After some research, it appears the steering column and wire harness parts is the same as the 2013 on the GM Parts Now webpage when i search using the year/make/model. So I ordered part #19418403(replaced 20910871). The SWPS wire harness has 6 wires in a 8 port connector. It plugged into the 8 pin SWPS without any issues. After installing, it fixed my SWPS C0710-00 code and Stabilitrak/Traction Control service message. I have driven approx 300 miles without any issue.

Cool, thanks for the input. I haven't seen JDBU827 come back online since September, but hopefully they return and see your note and let us know how things turned out.

Video on how to replace sensor

I have a tutorial on how to replace the sensor if anyone is interested. No need to pay near 800 bucks for gm to do it.
