Default '09 Sierra oil pressure gauge

Hi all,

I have a '09 Sierra 1500 crew 5.3 V8, and today I started experiencing oil pressure gauge problems. I have read a lot on here and other forums about something similar, but I haven't exactly found someone having the same problem yet.

I was driving and the oil pressure gauge shot to 0, check engine light came on. Truck drove normally besides this, no warning messages or beeps. I checked the oil when I parked--everything looked fine. I left about an hour later; this time, the gauge shot up to 80 max and stayed there with the check engine light on. It didn't fluctuate except for once when I braked, and it shot down to 0, but back up to 80 when I began moving again, where it has stayed since. Truck feels like it is driving completely normal.

Any idea? Of course the sensor itself, I've read a lot about the OP sending unit and the filter, but everyone seems to be getting a read of 0 and tons of warning messages where mine is acting a big differently.

I would firstly inspect & clean the electrical wires going into the OP Sender.
Sometimes things can get coated with oil, and a little contact cleaner may restore contacts.
Otherwise, try replacing the Sender with a Delco replacement part.
My Pk Ave had drops to zero and back up again, it turned out to be the OP sender.

99% of the time the oil pressure sensor is shorted internally, causing the gage to peg 80 psi all the time. Very common on these trucks.
