Best places to run wiring out of cab? 01 Silverado
I have a few projects going on, and really need to find better ways to run wires from the cab in my 01 Silverado to the engine compartment, and also into the bed, from the dash.
I used the one grommet under the dash to wire my 2 meter ham radio, but there are a lot more things I need to run wires for. Just curious if anyone has good ideas for places, without tearing the whole interior out to find them.
I really want to run some 12v power to the bed/camper shell to power some accessories and interior lights back there. But, whomever installed the shell made the only switched interior light back there functional when the headlights are on... makes no sense.
It'll be awhile before I do any of this.. (out on disability with broken wrist for at least 4 weeks), but I'm trying to at least plan some projects out in advance while I'm sitting here benched, for the time being.

most times if you have more than a lot of or big wires its easier to just to make your own holes and use grommets. the best place on my yukon was between the brake booster and wiring bulkhead . the lower area there is only one piece you have to drill through and its close to the fuse box so you dont have to run wire all over

Yup, drill your own holes and use grommets. Drawing that much power, you might as well add another ground wire FROM the engine and feed that through the fire wall also. I know the power requirements your looking for and tapping a ground somewhere else on the truck besides the engine is lookin for trouble. Do it right the first time and be done with it.

Ok. So, how do I get wires all the way from the engine compartment back into the bed? Can I run some underneath somehow, if I put them through some type of weather resistant tubing? I may add a second battery in the future, and that'* the only way I can imagine running the house battery power back there for camping.
I'd like to eventually put the starting battery on the pass side fender (a smaller red top Optima) and use my yellow top as the house battery in stock location with an isolator. Then run a distribution block to the camper setup from there, and have everything run off house battery juice.
But, I still just want some easy ways to run small gauge wiring for my rear strobes, and aux reverse lights. Plus I need a more permanent way to run wiring to the cab roof for my lights and antennas.
Again.. not happening for awhile yet. Still have almost no use of my left hand at all for some time yet...
And in addition to all that, my GF just passed her EMT, so I have to start planning blue lights and a cell booster antenna system for her caravan.
Man do I miss having a second hand right now. And nice weather, or garage would be awesome...

Hope your a switch hitter.
I don't see an issue with running heavy wire underneath the cab to the bed. Just as long as you secure them to something sturdy, and not like a fuel line or something. LOL. If your fuse block in the engine bay is like the one in my S10 and Blazer, you should already have access to a blank post that I believe is fused that you can run a heavy from. Just need to put a lug on it and voila.

if you want to easily run power and other wires and not have to worry about them, you can get some shc 40 pvc conduit, its cheap,light, easy to work with. and made to be able to pull wire through then seal the ends. and once you have the conduit run all you have to do to change it is pull out what you had and put the other in.
