Need some advice on buying a 95 gmc Sierra
I wanna buy a guys gmc on Craigslist but need some advice the truck is a 95 has 150000 miles, leather seats, very little rust from what I could see from
The pics, everything sounds kosher but the guy that owns it said he bought it from a 60 year old man that took good care of it he did a tranny fluid change at 90000 now he said he added some Lucas transmission treatment to help extend the life of the tranny should I be worried or??? Im gonna take a loan out but I wanna make sure I'm making the right decision |
I think he may have put the trans treatment in it to keep it from slipping.
|
If i was able to get it at the right price i would go for it. If the tranny does go bad it easily replaced at least for me it is. If it was cheap enough it would be worth it.
|
The kid wants 2500 for it, so what ur saying is that the trans was most likely slipping? And the guy before him through that stuff in?
|
people dont put that stuff in good transmissions
|
So u think I should just shy away from this one and look for a different one?
|
The kid seems to be honest and said the tranny never had a problem but I still have my doubts

You may be looking at replacing the trans, possibly the engine. It most likely will need new fuel lines and brake lines if the truck spent time in the north. The fuel pump and alternators are easy to replace, but go often in the model truck. You may consider spending time finding a truck that has been owned by someone for quite a few years, preferably a one owner. I sense the Lucas comment is just one of many unspoken issues to be discovered on this truck. IMHO- never buy a vehicle from a flipper on Craigslist. |
It looks like a nice truck, the brake lines don't look like they would be rusted or fuel likens its a clean lookin truck, he said the guy put the Lucas tranny additive in it for preventive maintnence but I don't understand why anyone would add this if the tranny is good, idk maybe I'll keep lookin, it sucks cause this was a nice lookin truck, has the leather seats, power seats, sikkens paint I believe
Very little rust, I usually deal on Craigslist cause dealers are way to expensive and you get about the same stuff |
I love used cars and have found Craiglist the "mother load" of very bad sellers, often guys that make a living selling crap cars and claiming they are the owner, when in fact they are not on the title. Not being on the title is a very big thing to check for. If the seller is not on the title, huge red flag.

One more video might that might be worth watching before buying:

i had a 89 for about 8 yrs, it was a 350 5spd, really the best set up. i wouldnt buy a 94-95 because they started putting alot of the newer sensors and stuff but they arent as easy to just plug in and see whats going on. the autos from back weren't very tough either.
|
Yea I'm gonna stay away from it, i found a better deal on a 97 f150
|
i would rather have the worst gm than the best ford. dont think im just hating i have had several every one was a unreliable pos. and i have to drive one at work that is newer and its the same too, leaves me stranded several times, has had 10k+ put into it. etc...
|
Idk its been about the same with gm's for me but I like the look of the gm and Chevy trucks, I've owned 1 ford and it was an 85 ranger and yea it was the biggest pos I've ever drivin, left me stranded several times

I have a 2007 F-350. Bought it in anger after my one owner K-2500 had all the fuel and brake lines rot out at 100k. Had one sensor go bad covered under warranty, that has been it. The F-350 has been rock solid. Although I am a "GM Guy", my GM vehicles have given me a part time job- keeping them going. On a good GM note, once you figure out the issues, just keep buying the same line of vehicle, and fix it before it breaks.
Spent a summer on our 2000 Bravada after the brake line rotted out at 60k miles. Replaced all the lines, the ball joints, the cv axles, shocks, and about everything else three summers ago. Other than a alternator failure and the LIM gasket, it has been absolutely flawless, great for a full frame AWD vehicle. |
