1989 GMC Shuts off
I have a 1989 GMC Sierra C1500 5.7L V8 its got a brand new fuel tank, fuel pump, and fuel sending unit. I also replaced the throttle body and all plugs. It now cranks and runs fine for a few miles but then shuts off and will not crank back up for about thirty minutes and will do the same thing. Any Idea Guys

I actually don't know the truck had been sitting up for about 6 years prior to me purchasing it. The previous owner said it was running fine when he parked it except for the fuel pump would blow ever year. I solved that problem and finally got it to crank but now this. Haha. From what I know it was not doing this prior to this. If it helps I ran a diagnosis on it this morning and it just played the test signal light beep and then a pause and two beeps so I don't think it'* electronic related.

The engine doesn't crank at all, or it cranks over but doesn't start?
If it'* the latter, then it'* easy...you check for spark, and fuel out of the injectors in the TBI......something this old, sitting for awhile, could be any number of things.....If no spark, possible ICM or pickup coil...

the little peice in your distributor that he mentioned is the ICM (Ignition Control module) or the pick up coil, you could remove the ICM and have it tested at your local parts store or reputable shop..as far as a "cooling pack" goes im not sure what he means lol

Not a problem just make sure to let us know how it goes, they are cheap parts if it does need replaced,Also one more thing i thought of they have an oil pressure sender on the back of the intake and if they start to/or go bad they will kill power to the fuel pump because it doesnt think the engine has any oil pressure so you could also check for power to the fuel pump when this happens
