I have a 07 canyon with an intermittent problem...Every once in a while (no pattern or circumstances) i will go to start it and just as it is about to start the starter will start freewheeling even if i let go of the key. it sound like it is gonna fire up then it will hesitate just for a sec then the starter will keep going. If i walk away from it for about 10 min or so it will fire right up with no problem, some times i notice the fuel pump is not running but other times it is. the only constant is that the security light on the dash starts flashing while the key is in accessory position. It started about a year into ownership and then not again until recently it is becoming more often.

any Ideas or suggestions on what to check would be appreciated as I am poor and cant afford to take it to a mech.

are you saying the starter sound like it disengages from the flywheel and revs up? usually thats the starter sol getting weak or the gear getting gunked up, sometimes you can get away with cleaning and greasing the gear shaft and stuff. sooner or later youll have to get a starter.

No the engine is still turning over, like it is not getting gas or spark. and if i continue to try and start it, it won't fire until I leave it alone for a while.

I have tried a couple of times to pump the gas but it never helps.

i was thinking something else. if its flashing its not going to start, that means the bcm doesnt like something and is disabling the injectors. but the way its supposed to work is start for a few seconds and shut back off. not real sure what else it could be. do you have an aftermarket remote start. i let someone install one on my old 03 monte and they messed up some stuff that made it do the same thing.

Do a key relearn on it..Turn your key on for eleven minutes (dont try to start it) the security light will go off then shut the key off for 30 seconds and see if she starts after that

no remote start the only remote is the keyless entry fob.

I will try that. should i do it asap or wait till it happens again?

if your security light is on then do it now.But if that fixes your problem your ign lock isnt liking your key wich usually means its junk..do you have alot of keys on your key ring?

yea I do have quite a few keys but only like house keys, no others with chips like the truck key.

well it did it again and I did the relearn thing and it fired right up. then later that night my daughter TOTALED it so now I don't have to wonder if it will do it again.
