Default 2008 gmc sierra extended cab w/t

hello I have a 2008 gmc sierra ext cab w/t that didn't come from factory with keyless entry. I would like to add factory keyless entry to the truck. can it be done? or is it better to go aftermarket? my truck does have the tpms on it.

You would have to add all the wiring to it, install the locks, take it to the dealer and have them reprogram the BCM(Body Control Module) for keyless entry. That'* the most painful way.

Other way is to get one of the higher end systems that Viper has. This includes remote start, keyless and built in alarm. I highly suggest you stay away from the cheap brands.

IMO, its not worth the time, money or headache of either option. Trade the truck in for the options you want.

its got power windows and power locks and the wiring is there for it. I guess my real question is is the keyless entry software on the keyless entry module or is it on the main computer?

It has its own module. But how did you know that it came from the factory with no keyless entry? That stuff is like pretty standard these days.

That'* what I was thinking.. If you bought the truck used, it'* possible it does have RKE and you just didn't get the FOBs for it. Should be able to check the RPO Label for the RKE code(*). You might get lucky and have it already.. then you just need to get some FOBs and program them.

i checked the codes and i have the build sheet and even had the dealership try to program a key fob to it and it wouldn't let him. I guess ill order the rke and see if it works. the dealership didn't know if it would work or not.

Ok, I'm confused. The dealer tried to program a RKE and couldn't? And they didn't know if it would work or not? I'm sorry, but that was the stupidest thing I've heard coming from a dealer. They should or should not know whether something will work or not just based on your VIN.

I was thinking about asking him for a picture of his RPO sticker.
