2007 Silverado Classic Brake Problems???
 

Hi - I'm new to the forum and didn't see any posts related so here it goes.

Had to go for a drive yesterday, had the windows down, and heard some weird noises coming from front end but couldn't tell which side it was coming from. Thought it was maybe a hub starting to go out so today I jacked up the front drivers side and gave the wheel a spin. Very tight and seems like the brakes are dragging. The outside of the rotor has grooves in it that I've never noticed before. Walked over to the passenger side and rotor looks the same so I jacked this up and same dragging and resistance as other side. I checked the brake fluid level and it's fine and have never had a drop of fluid on the garage floor. Any ideas on what's wrong or what to look for?

There will be some drag notice from the front. Have a helper apply the breaks and then let off to check if the calipers are indeed releasing. Also check your hub bearings for play, these trucks are known for bearings issues.

I guess I should have stated that there is excessive dragging. I thought about a bad caliper but both of them at the same time? Same thing as bearings, both at the same time?

normally if its the bearings it makes a grinding noise. it sounds like the calipers arent releasing all the way. which is normally not enough grease on the hardware and or what ever pads they used if not the oem set was not "fit". you have to make sure the pads slide good and some cheaper pads you have to file off the casting to get it to float good

When checking your brake pads, don't put grease on the hardware where the pads slide on. The grease will act like a magnet to dirt. Only grease the slide pins for the calipers. Normally yes the wheel bearings will make noise when they are loose, but have I seen some that don't make noise. Since the truck is jacked up already, be a good idea to check frontend parts.

It ended up being a bad hub/bearing assembly on the driver side. The passenger was not as bad but I ended up replacing both with new brake pads and I turned the rotors down on one of the lathes where I work.
