I need some help

My mom'* 2002 Gmc Sonoma pickup is shutting off while driving down the road! She said it did it once last week and now today it has done is 6+ times! One time it started right away and ever since then you need to stop completely and crank it.
it has the 4.3 Liter V6 Auto a/c 4x4
anyone know what could be wrong
Vapor locking, fuel pump, filter, crank sensor, throttle position sensor....??? anyway of narrowing it down for me?
Any help would be great!!!

Three items, listed most likely as problem in order:
ignition switch
ground to fuel pump (located on left rear of frame shares same ground as tail lights)
fuel pump

Check the coil.

i was driving it today and it never shut off but when i would step on it from a stop light it would chug chug but if i just barely stepped on it it would go. same on the highway if i'd try to speed up it would start to die.
but again it never died on me today???

what do i do to check the coil?

I will check that. but i'm leaning twords the fuel pump. I went to pull out of the driveway today and it decided not to run anymore. Normally i can just bang on the tank and i can jar it... not the case this time. but it did seem to be making more noise then normal yesterday. and today it just sounds funny... when it does try pumping.

Hmm..I had two replace them in two of my silverados one with a ''350'' the other with a 4.3 same part number same pump..One at 250k one at 200k is why i asked If its always hot outside and lets it run low on gas the pump may be burned out..When was the filter replaced last
